Today, we pause to remember.

On Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice make the freedoms we experience every day possible.

At Mary Greeley, we are grateful for their service—and we hold in our hearts the families and loved ones who continue to carry their legacy.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We are thankful.

A New Bell to Ring

When Larry Northup finished radiation oncology treatment for prostate cancer nearly a decade ago, Mary Greeley didn’t have a bell for him to ring to celebrate the milestone.

Mary Greeley’s radiation oncology unit eventually installed a bell in 2017. Ringing the bell has been a meaningful way for our cancer patients to mark the conclusion of their radiation treatment.

There’s a new bell now, thanks to Larry and his wife, Sherry. The bell is surrounded by ribbons representing all forms of cancer.

Larry is a longtime volunteer at Mary Greeley and has been a familiar face at the welcome desk outside of the radiation oncology department. The bell was paid for by a fund the Northups established several years ago to honor the care Larry received in radiation oncology.

Thank you to the Northups.

Archie the Mary Greeley Crisis K9, celebrated his first birthday with a lively party in the Mary Greeley cafeteria. He got lots of gifts and enthusiastically chowed on a special doggie birthday cake.

Archie is part of our ARCH (Alternative Response for Community Health) program, a collaboration between Mary Greeley, the city of Ames, Ames Police and Iowa State University. This integrated approach brings together hospital staff, city partners, and first responders to reduce unnecessary emergency department or jail encounters, address behavioral health crises, and improve overall community well-being.

The ARCH program, including Archie, is supported by gift to the Mary Greeley Foundation.

Happy Birthday, Archie!
