These two terms are often used interchangeably, yet there is a distinct and important difference between them.

Is it really only Wednesday?⠀

Anyone else feeling like this is what's needed right about now?⠀

Child's pose (aka wisdom pose - so good, right?!) is always good for a little reboot.⠀

☞ Stretches the hips, thighs and ankles.⠀
❦ Relieves back and neck pain/strain. ⠀
✌︎ Calms the brain, relieves anxiety and fatigue.⠀

I like to gently rock my forehead side to side as a soft reminder to shhhhhh the inner chatter. ⠀

☼ Breathe fully and consciously into the back of your heart. ⠀
☼ As you inhale, feel the back body doming toward the sky as you lengthen and widen the spine. ⠀
☼ As you exhale, release the torso and sink deeper into the fold.⠀

Relax the body to relax the mind.

The portable self-care tool of breath is good for it all: body, mind and spirit. ⠀

I mean, you're already doing it anyway, might as well make it worth your while.⠀

Take a slow, deep, clearing breath in through your nose ⠀⠀

“Sometimes people ask you: "When is your birthday?" But you might ask yourself a more interesting question: "Before that day which is called my birthday, where was I?"

Ask a cloud: "What is your date of birth? Before you were born, where were you?"

If you ask the cloud, "How old are you? Can you give me your date of birth?" you can listen deeply and you may hear a reply. You can imagine the cloud being born. Before being born it was the water on the ocean's surface. Or it was in the river and then it became v***r. It was also the sun because the sun makes the v***r. The wind is there too, helping the water to become a cloud. The cloud does not come from nothing; there has been only a change in form. It is not a birth of something out of nothing.

Sooner or later, the cloud will change into rain or snow or ice. If you look deeply into the rain, you can see the cloud. The cloud is not lost; it is transformed into rain, and the rain is transformed into grass and the grass into cows and then to milk and then into the ice cream you eat. Today if you eat an ice cream, give yourself time to look at the ice cream and say: "Hello, cloud! I recognize you.”

Does today, heading into this wacky Thanksgiving, feel like the best day in the year?⠀

Humans are meaning making machines, so no matter what, you have the ability to believe this.⠀

As one of my besties says "heaven is the story we tell ourselves". ⠀

It's a 50/50 toss up: could (and do - don't get me wrong) complain *and* could notice the good. ⠀

Today I choose thankfulness for:⠀
- my daughter's whole-hearted, inspirational 3rd grade teacher who gave her this quote before her first MCAS (MA standardized testing) in 2015⠀
- all of today's teachers doing the impossible job of pandemic teaching⠀
- my daughter submitting her first college application last night⠀
- my new handmade, one-of-a-kind piece of art⠀
- this time of {relative} slowing and stilling⠀
- pumpkin pie and vegan gravy⠀
- {Zoom} spiritual community ⠀
- watching my kids learn ⠀
- my breath + body⠀

and so much more ...⠀

Benefits of deep breathing include: ⠀

♥️ Decreases stress and increases calm by slowing heart rate⠀

😉 Relieves pain by triggering the release of endorphins⠀

⚡️Increases energy and stamina ⠀

>>> Breathe in calmly, through the nose for a count of 4 - fill abdomen and chest. Hold breath in for a count of 4. Slowly and gently release breath through the mouth with slightly parted lips for a count of 6. Repeat 3 times, or even better, continue for 3 minutes.
