Remember Pearl Harbor
https://mailchi.mp/nara/0rjknzxchj-763809?e=27015f3ced
"80 years ago today, on the morning of December 7, 1941, Japanese bombers and torpedo planes staged a surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, propelling the United States into World War II. In less than 2 hours, the U.S. Pacific Fleet was devastated, and more than 3,000 Americans were either killed or wounded."

My first cousin once removed, PFC Erford Mosher, entered the service on 21 Apr 1941. He had been stationed at the Hawaiian Islands and had just laid out his dress uniform on his bunk when the alarm rang out that Pearl Harbor was under attack. He ran to duty, and when he returned to the barracks, later on, he saw that his tie was torn in half. If it had not been for his call to duty, he could have been killed. He served in the South Pacific warzone for three years. The battle was so fierce that his hair turned white overnight.

Thank you, cousin, and all the men and women who served at Pearl Harbor on that "Day of Infamy."

Remembering Pearl Harbor on the 80th anniversary of the attack.

For those of you who missed the First Colors Live Event at the World War I Memorial on April 16th, you can now watch the Virtual Event-First Colors (below.) It is a very moving tribute and ceremony to honor the Doughboys and their contribution to "the war to end all wars." For myself, I tearfully remembered my grandfather, Pvt. Francis Allyn Newton, who fought with the 107th Infantry in three battles:
(1.) Dickebush Lake and Scharpenberg sectors, Belgium, 9 July-30 August 1918;
(2.) Ypres-Lys offensive, Belgium, 31 August-2 September 1918;
(3.) Somme offensive, France, 24 September-20 October 1918.

I will be so glad to see First Colors go up over the World War I Memorial on April 16th!
My grandfather, Francis Allyn Newton, fought with the 107th Infantry in three major battles but was finally cut down when they went over a trench and were surprised by a machine gun nest along the Hindenberg Line in the Somme Offensive (24 Sept to 20 Oct 1918). He received multiple injuries, recuperated in a British hospital, and then went home to Binghamton, Broome, New York, where he eventually became the Superintendent of Railway Mail.

Broadcast event will feature Gary Sinise, the Harlem Hellfighters Tribute Band and more.

TODAY IS NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY!

The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 was signed into law by 45th U.S. President Donald J. Trump, designating every March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

Our Vietnam Vets came home to less than favorable conditions, to say the least. They deserve our debt of gratitude for their service regardless of personal political opinions about the war itself.

Thank a Vietnam Vet and show your support!

2020 has certainly been a challenging year with so many changes to people's lives over a virus. But I can't help be thankful that by spending more time at home, many of us have been looking back at our family albums and looking forward to learning more about our ancestors and how military service played a part in so many people's lives.

Here at MGH, I'm getting ready for the big reveal of my platform at militarygenealogyhistory.com. There's so much to do to get ready, but I guarantee that you will find our new home a place where you can learn, grow, and share about your family's military ancestors.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a very blessed and prosperous New Year!
