Explain the benefit of completing third-party vs. in-house testing.

There are multiple benefits for a company to test internally; testing is much cheaper and faster results are available when conducted in-house. However, reading through many of the FDA FORM 483’s for 503B’s, I see multiple issues for these tests being performed internally, such as not being validated or products being released without passing internal testing. There are a lot of regulations around laboratory testing, and unless followed precisely, with adequate validation and documentation, it can result in potential regulatory actions and patient safety concerns.
Currently, Compound Preferred has elected to utilize a reputable, FDA Registered and ISO 17025 certified 3rd party laboratory for the majority of our product testing. Although the testing costs more than if it were performed internally, this provides our customers and us with the assurance that the testing meets the regulatory requirements, thus ensuring accuracy and patient safety. No matter what 503B you receive products from, ask them if their testing is performed by an FDA registered and ISO 17025 certified laboratory.

Tell me about the Quality Management System (QMS) at Compound Preferred.

Quality starts before a product is ever made. The QMS here at Compound Preferred has tracking and control from approved suppliers to approved laboratories performing our finished good products and everything in between. Our QMS is used to track and control all of our controlled documents, personnel training, quality event management (nonconformances and CAPAs (Corrective Actions/Preventive Actions), equipment calibrations/qualifications, change control for new and existing processes or products, risk analysis, and more. Implementation of an effective QMS ensures products made are of top quality and consistency.

How can medical research companies benefit from using Compound Preferred?

At Compound Preferred, we are required to follow the vast majority of regulatory requirements large pharmaceutical manufacturers are required to follow (21 CFR 210 and 211). We utilize an electronic Quality Management System (QMS) to track and record risk analysis, change control, corrective actions/preventive actions, controlled document changes, validations and much more. We also use an FDA-registered laboratory to perform all sterility and analytical product testing.
