Update on Gabriel
As many of you know, Gabriel has been bravely fighting melanoma. His initial treatment, TIL (Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocyte therapy), unfortunately did not have the outcome we hoped for. His oncologist has now shifted his care to a combination of immunotherapy, radiation, and chemotherapy to help extend his lifespan.
As part of this next phase, Gabriel also underwent HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) testing, which looks at genetic markers on white blood cells that play a key role in the immune system.
Recently, Gabriel experienced bleeding from his wound and was rushed to urgent care at City of Hope. At that time, not much could be done for the wound itself. He then completed five days of radiation and was preparing for his second immunotherapy treatment when he developed a high fever, low blood pressure, rapid pulse, dizziness, and nausea.
He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered his wound was infected, leading to septic shock. Emergency surgery was performed to remove dead tissue from the wound.
Right now, Gabriel remains in the hospital but is recuperating well after surgery. His strength and resilience continue to inspire us, and we’re grateful for the excellent care he’s receiving. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he continues this fight.
