Try these phrases when you need a little more clarity:

Can you explain that in plain language?
Is this urgent, or do we have time to think?
What are the benefits and risks?
What happens if we wait 30 to 60 minutes?
What are my alternatives?
Can you give us a moment to talk privately?

You are not being difficult.
You are being informed.

Save this for appointments & labor day!

When a big decision shows up, it can feel like your brain goes blank.
That is normal while in labor and sometimes it can be a normal while feeling vunerbale in any medical enviroment.

BRAIN is a simple tool to help you stay grounded and informed without spiraling. You and your partner can both learn it.

If you want, I can drop a copy/paste version for you to keep on your phone or print off for your notes.

Comment or message me BRAIN and I will send it to you.

Clarity calms the nervous system.

When we feel rushed, confused, or pressured, our body shifts into stress mode.
And stress makes everything feel harder.

Informed consent helps your brain feel safe enough to breathe again.
It creates a pause.
It gives you a map.
And that can be one of the biggest comfort measures in the room.

Informed consent is a comfort measure.

Comfort isn’t only candles and counter pressure. Comfort is also knowing what’s happening, why it’s being suggested, and what choices you truly have.

You are allowed to ask questions.
You are allowed to take a minute.
You are allowed to understand before you decide.

If you’re pregnant right now, save this for later.

🌿 Doulas are the specialists in continuous, hands‑on, emotional, physical, and informational support during labor.

Not medical care.
Not clinical decision‑making.
But labor support? That is their entire domain.

Midwives are experts in physiologic birth and clinical care.
Doulas are experts in supporting the birthing person through the process itself.

Their skill set is unique:
Comfort measures
Positioning
Coping techniques
Advocacy support
Partner coaching
Trauma‑informed care
Continuous presence (something no other provider offers)

And the research is rock‑solid:
Continuous labor support from a doula leads to:
Lower C‑section rates
Less need for pain medication
Shorter labors
Higher satisfaction
Better outcomes for parents and babies. No other role in the birth room is trained specifically and exclusively for this.

I’ve been a busy bee 🐝, and as the year winds down and colder days set in, I find myself reflecting and so full of gratitude!

Today I want to thank my mentors, friends, clients, and colleagues who pour into this work: doulas (including bereavement), midwives and birth educators, OBs and labor & delivery nurses, health & trauma coaches—and the behind-the-scenes pros, from lawyers and fellow entrepreneurs to our beloved accountants. You know who you are!

Each of you has shaped my growth and cheered me forward. Here’s to a community that lifts as we work—educating, comforting, advocating, translating, coaching, coordinating, and supporting from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond!
