TMI Medical Solutions develops STaBLE Flo for surgeries requiring distension.

The device, which is pending FDA approval, eliminates need for nurse to squeeze pressure bulb or bag when fluid runs low, delivers significant savings compared to currently available fluid management systems.

ANDOVER, MA – TMI Medical Solutions, whose partners have more than 120 years of combined experience in minimally invasive gynecologic and urologic surgery, has introduced STaBLE Flo, a medical device designed to improve patient safety, increase surgical efficiency and reduce operating costs in hospital operating rooms, physician offices, ambulances, and military environments.

“STaBLE Flo eliminates the need for a nurse to squeeze a pressure bulb to maintain the steady fluid pressure that is required for cavity distension and optimal visualization with a hysteroscope or cystoscope,” said Keith Isaacson, MD, one of TMI Medical Solutions co-founders. “With STaBLE Flo, physicians are able to work more efficiently while nurses are free to attend to the needs of the patient for the duration of the procedure, improving patient safety,” Isaacson added.

STaBLE Flo is easily attached to 1-litre, 3-litre, and 5-litre pressure bags with a simple twist of the Luer lock fitting. An optional three position switch enables the user to select from low, medium or high fluid pressure levels. Green and red lights indicate when steady pressure is being applied and when fluid in the bag is nearing its end. STaBLE Flo’s portability makes it ideal for use on ambulances and in military environments.

The STaBLE Flo device combines a small, lightweight shell with a disposable battery. Each battery is programmed to meet specific pressure requirements so there is no need to charge it or plug the device in to a power source. Once inserted, the battery will maintain the pre-programmed pressure level for 30 minutes. When compared to the fluid management systems currently used in many hospitals, which require a greater outlay of both capital costs, and disposable tubing set costs, STaBLE Flo delivers hundreds of dollars in savings each time it is used.
