Folks, back with information concerning the Interview Program, that l did last week.

A number of years ago, up in Washington DC, my father Ernest Hansen was interviewed by the Library of Congress folks, concerning this same program.

None of my family has ever heard the actual interview. Today, I was just informed that the interview has been found. While there is only a Audio recording available, it’s amazing. It last about 40 minutes long. Anyone who wants to hear it, please PM and I will forward additional information.

My hair was standing straight up, while I listened. You know something, I miss my “ POPS “.

Hey folks, this morning I had an interview in Muskegon. And as some of you would hope, it wasn’t with the Legion in Muskegon. Nope I am not going anywhere.

The interview was with the group of folks, that Bill Cook talked about in our last monthly meeting.

The group is called Ameri Corps, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, through the United Way of Muskegon. Now that’s a bunch of words to say.

Any way, one of their projects this year was to interview Military Veterans, across all branches of the service, Enlisted, WO and regular Officers. This included the National Guard and Army Reserve. Short Enlistments and Career Folks.

It was held at Muskegon Community College, just off Quarterline, near the Orchard View High School. I am not sure how many days it went on or how many folks they interviewed.

The program is based out of Washington D. C, and in through the Library of Congress ( National Archives).

A few days before the actual interview, Dawn Cook a representative of the organization contacted me. She asked that I bring any stuff that covered my career: photos, pictures, uniforms and you get my drift. They just wanted to take pictures of the items, to be included with my actual , video taped interview.

First they asked misc questions to lay the groundwork for questions to be asked during the actual interview. Where was assigned, when, and again you get the drift.

Then l was taken to a private room, with the actual interview person and another one who took notes. I had brought into that part of the process, a shadow box, of my father’s military service. He served in WW11 and became a POW, on the opening day of the “ Battle of the Bulge “. He was captured and was held for almost 6 month’s in Germany . The reason l had his and not my own ? Good Question. Answer years ago I had it sit up for to beginning taken to DC, by my sister and niece . And have his interview completed there . He wasn’t able to bring any of his stuff with him . So to honor him , I brought his medals and book, showing his service .

I was able to have more then a few minutes to answer their questions and even expand my military experience .

Now too get to part that you’re looking for . But oh now . I need to explain what this project is and the reason for it .

We are all getting older and our memories are fading . So before we completely lose it. They want a record of us Men and Women and our stories . For our kids, grandchildren , friends and for folks who just want to know more about the military . Peace Time and War.

I have recently learned that the program will be having some of the very same interviews that I did . In our very own Legion. One of the folks , conducting the interviews just might be our be , Mr Bill Cook. This is due to happen, in fall of this year .

Once my interview is posted and in the system I will let folks know .

I strongly encourage all of you and any other Veterans you know to participate in this project .

Let me know if you have any questions and I will try and get them answered .

Now I am done

Hey everyone, I just learned on Monday, our favorite Marine, Sam, that works with Jodi, up at the Hart VSO is leaving the area. His family and him are moving to that there state of Arizona. From a place with lots of water, to a place with lots and lots of Sand. He must miss being “ Deployed “ or something.

I do have to say that in his short time being with us, he has been pretty good. Heck he still looks like a “ Marine Recruiting Poster “. And he’s been able to make this “ Old Army Guy “ smile a few times. Besides being very helpful. So before he leaves, I think we should all try and take him a “ C-Ration or an MRE”. Just show him that we care.

He will be missed.

Hey folks, back again. I just wanted to make sure that any of my fellow Veterans out there that might need a ride to a medical appointment, to contact the Hart Veterans Service office and they will contact me to help. I am finally back to helping other veterans by driving them. I am looking forward to being kept busy.

Hey fellow Legion Members and friends. I am back to hollering at you.

First thing that comes to mind is a 5 K Veteran’s Walk/Run, held this November in Shelby . If you remember correctly, Coast Guard and fellow Legion Member and l did last years event. Thanks to Lori, there wasn’t a need to contact the local EMT’s for me.

So after having the recent Medical Scare, I have decided to get my rear end a lot more and seriously try and get in better shape.

I am looking for others to join me and hopefully Lori to join us.

And to give you an update on my physical health, I am almost completely done with my Cardio Therapy, down in Muskegon. The folks down there have been great. While they continue to push me to get better, they have done it, with common sense. I owe them a lot.

More later

My fellow Legion Members, family and friends, I have a major announcement to make. I should be back “roaming/driving these here roads of yours by this weekend. If you seea very clean dark blue Ford Maverick truck, stay clear. It will probably be driving in the left lane of the highway, going 45 mph and on the country roads maybe even slower.
I haven’t been on the road in almost 6 weeks. I am looking forward to seeing you all soon. Darrell, Lori, Dale, Janice and Maragret, except both a phone call and a visit soon. Even the Hart VSO folks are on my traveling plans.

Seeing you soon

No more walker or cane. Got cleared to start driving again. Yet no lifting much over 5 pounds. Last home health visits were yesterday. Next week it’s time for Cardio Therapy in Muskegon.

I just want to thank everyone who gave me a holler and prayer for me.

It’s time to get moving.

And before I forget, our previous Commander Larry F. continues to be a motivator for me. Thank you Sir.

Hey folks, yesterday I got a surprise visitor yesterday. It was Joe, our Commander. It was really good to see him. Had a very good time. We talked about all kinds of things. Including Legion Stuff.

I am looking forward to being able to attend tomorrow night meeting. My sister is bringing me.

Just received

I just want to holler out to one of our previous Legion Commanders. Back awhile he came down with some serious medical issues. Never one to complain or make it known. He dealt with it and continues to do so. I just wanted to let him know, that I am praying for him. He needs so much of our help. Larry F. get well soon and hope to see you at the Legion soon

Folks l have been away for a number of days, taking care of some important issues. Some of you may even know.

Here goes. I have been in the hospital in Muskegon since the 4th. Major Heart surgery and some unexpected complications caused some additional work. I was in ICU, until yesterday afternoon and finally was released to come home today.

During that time, i was visted by one of Navy Heroes, from the Feather Party. There you go Lori I said it. Lol.

My sister , Ladyfriend and my niece from northern Minnesota were just a partial part of a wonderful support group. Thank you all.

Just after arriving home, my other brother Darrell, called and requested to come over for a very short visit. He arrived with both a basket filled with goodies and a special cooking grill type basket. Thank you both. Lori even included a nice get well card. Promising me, that I have 5 minutes to speak. Bill?

I return home with serious travel restrictions from my doctor. Only to travel to Medical Appointments for a while.
I am getting tired, so I will have to close for now.

Again thank you all for the prayers and offer support
