To all of my fellow American Legion Post 30, members. Thank you. The meal and the meeting was Great. We got a lot accomplished . Gina, Cpt Jack, Lori and others presented lots of interesting and great ideas about what we are doing, could be do and will be doing. I am truly happy to just be part of a wonderful group. It’s not going to be easy by any stretch. Yet being part of Oceana County and a Veteran as well, what else can I say. Yet Cpt Jack , knows l won’t stop talking, doing or writing. I am very happy to say, that a vote was taken and we are going to be a “Proud Sponsor “, of the Veterans Affairs Office, annual 5 K run/ walk, being held on November 8 , in Shelby. I for one, am going to try and be 1 of many folks in accomplished competing in it. First time doing such a thing in over 30 years. I hope to be joined by others from my Legion Folks. If not, I just hope you attend and be there to support me.

The Hart VA office does so much for our fellow veterans and their families, as well as the Community.

So l am closing in asking for your support in sucha Great and Special Event.

Otherwise I hope to see all of you at the “Finish Line “.

This passed weekend event to raise money for for the upcoming Women’s event made the ECHO paper. Great article. Now let’s see if they can raise any more much needed funds. So at next week’s Monthly Legions Meeting, let’s see if we can help them out a little more. Every $, will help make this great event better. So hey fellas and ladies, bring your cash, bring your gift cards, heck, just bring whatever you can to help.

Great story Lori. Now the rest of our members need to pitch in, either with their time, wallets or ideas. These 3 ladies and Darrell did a mighty fine job . Our local community and folks from out of town, helped a great deal with their donations. From a few pennies, to many $20. Every cent will go towards helping out. And for you other lady veterans, from both within Oceana County and across the US, these 2 ladies mentioned and others who are not, they are here to help. Yes there’s other groups, still right here, right now, we have these folks, ready to help.

Keep up the amazing work, Gina, her mom Janet and Lori.

I am proud to know you and to have helped just a little.

American Legion Post 30 is at it again! What your asking? Raising money for a great cause! Post members Gina Mead, Darrell Hanson, Lori Hogston and Darrell Hogston and Janet Mead were on the corner of Oceana Dr. and M20 Saturday morning giving out water bottles and receiving donations for Women Veterans Weekend. This retreat will be held on September 18th thru the 21st for our women who have served in the military. There are many programs for men but not many for women and the Legion has volunteered to host this wonderful program. This program is FREE of charge to those who have signed up to attend. There will be up to 50 women coming from all over the US to share their experiences about the time spent while serving. These include PTSD, Disabilities caused from serving, military sexual trauma, to substance abuse. The program offers a winery tour, sport fishing, dune rides, gellyball, entertainment and more. If you would like to attend next years program, check out this web site: https://womenveteransweekend.org/. We will update information for next years program after this year has been completed. This years speaker will be Linda Larson Schlitz who has experience in homeless veterans, substance abuse, and PTSD. She is volunteering her time and she would love to invite all women veterans to attend her seminar Saturday morning at 9:30 to 11:30 at Lake Michigan Family Campground south of Pentwater. If you would like to make a donation to this much needed program, please contact the Shelby American Legion or Lori Hogston at 231-724-0370.

Hey folks our Scrap Metal drive isn’t going very well. Brian has only picked up, less then a 1,000 pounds. And the current dollar amount for all of his hard work isn’t much. Hey folks, remember if you can’t deliver to the Legion, we can come toy you. We really need your support. Thank you

Folks, it’s been awhile since my last post. We just had our July Monthly Meeting . I was extremely quiet ,which shocked almost everyone . I had just arrived back from a trip to Georgia . We elected new Legion Officer’s and a few other things . The most important issue raised , was a need to raise additional funds to pay for our recent Bathroom Issues . We came up with the idea of gathering up scrap metal and turning it in . Last time we did it , we did pretty well . So here l am, asking your help . We need every pound we can get . We are willing and able to either accept your donation at the Legion ,or even come to you . Just feel free to contact any Legion member or you can call me at (231) 670-3170 and we will arrange for us to come to you . We just need your help . Thank you in advance

A very Sad, yet the most expensive Holiday ever, will quickly be upon us. This Monday morning, we will be gathering in both New Era and Shelby to honor our fallen Veterans. With the laying of Wreaths, placing flags and other such showing of respect. For many of us, this day will last for the whole year in our hearts and minds. For those of you, who aren’t able to join us, you to will be missed.
This year, l have been asked to be the guest speaker in Shelby. I do it with a very heavy heart and feel most honored to be asked. I will not let you down, in my speech. Thank you

Our Yard Sale Event is Officially Over. I want to say to my other Brother Darrell & his wife Lori, thank you for all of your hard work during this Endeavor . From the start weeks ago, the effort was made to raise the most funds possible to keep our mission going . Getting flyers made, donations and just plain “Hard Work”. It worked . We surpassed our goal. To Sandy and Lee, your support these last 2 days , during the actual sale, was amazing . You kept us motivated . Thank you . So to all our fellow member’s who didn’t stop by, sorry you missed out on something Very Special.

Before we begin this Huge Yard Sale Event, l feel that if we didn’t take moment to say thank you, we would be in great error. So many folks have donated their time and gifts, truly amazing. From the deep woods of Ludington, the Big City of Whitehall , to the hills of Shelby. Business owners in Hart, a local New Era church and our own Legion Members. Also the local media, Radio and Printed Press, such as the ECHO, all so gracious in the helping getting the word out about our Fund Raiser . I better shut up for now. Again thank you All.
