Side planks are only as effective as your positioning.

If your chest starts turning toward the floor, you’re losing the point of the exercise.

Stack your head, chest, and hips so everything stays facing forward.

That’s what keeps the work where you actually want it—core, hips, shoulders.

There are plenty of ways to modify or progress this move, but this alignment doesn’t change.

Choose the version you can control without losing it.

Here’s a little snapshot of what 1:1 sessions looked like this past week

A mix of:
– low back pain that wasn’t going away & was beginning to interrupt daily life
– neck/shoulder pain & tingling
– issues related to getting back to running postpartum 

No two sessions look the same, but the goal is always:
figure out what’s actually going on → make a plan → get you moving forward

Not just exercises… but understanding what your body needs and WHY!

Getting back into workouts after having a baby can feel… like a lot.

Not because you can’t do it—but because no one really shows you where to start.

Here’s the part most people miss 👇🏼

It’s not about jumping back into full workouts right away—
it’s about rebuilding your foundation first.

At Evolution Mom here in Hunterdon County NJ, I focus on:

1️⃣ Start with breathing -
Learning how to coordinate your breath with movement lays the groundwork for everything else—core, pelvic floor, strength.

2️⃣ Don’t skip the core + pelvic floor work
This is what actually helps you feel stronger, more supported, and confident as you progress.

3️⃣ It doesn’t have to be a full workout
Short, intentional bouts > doing nothing (or pushing too hard too soon)

Im Lauren - Doctor of physical therapy, personal trainer, and the founder of Evolution Mom!

My own pregnancy and postpartum journeys changed everything for me - especially how i view exercise, recovery, and what women actually need.

Because being told "youre fine" or that something is "just part of being a mom"....
