Which reminder did you need to hear today?

Our relationship with food might not look perfect during this time of year, but that shouldn’t deter us from making our best effort to feel our best.

If you’re struggling with your relationship with food this holiday season, I’m here to support you. Send me a DM to learn more about how to make 2025 the year you officially ditch dieting for good.

SAVE this post for your plant-based holiday.

If you thought I was going to get super specific about the exact portion sizes for protein, carbs, & fat, then this is for you:

👉🏼 If you’re only focusing on the physical nourishment of your food, then it’s time to check on your relationship with food & nutrition. Fixating on the macros, vitamins & minerals, calories, and/or health impact of certain foods takes away the joy of eating & connecting with those around you.

And isn’t that part of celebrating the holidays? Connecting with your loved ones, enjoying the community around you, finding joy in making new memories & reliving old traditions…

This year, I challenge you to approach the holiday dinner buffet with these things in mind:
✨ What is going to keep my physically satisfied?
✨ What is going to keep my emotionally satisfied?
✨ What is going to spark joy?
✨ What is going to taste the best to me?
✨ What is going to help me feel my best?

There. That’s your balanced plate. What else would you add to this plant-based balanced plate? 👇🏻

You can count on FACTUAL nutrition information here.

Nutrition information can be confusing to figure out all on your own. I remember when diet culture got the best of me and I chose to eat vegan out of fear & control. Thankfully, I studied & clinically practiced my way out of that mess when I became a non-diet Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

There are so many myths & misinformation about eating a plant-based diet that can make it challenging to navigate. Follow along with me .and.intuitive for a non-diet, flexible approach to eating plan-based.

Did anything here surprise you?

I’m in survival season but that doesn’t mean my nutrition completely goes to the wayside. Nutrition is important to me but it doesn’t have to consume my every thought.

Leaning on the basic foundations of plant-based nutrition is helping me stay satisfied, energized, & healthy as a first time mom without requiring extra mental energy.

Thank goodness for plant-based food freedom. 🙌🏻

What have you learned from going plant-based?

I’ve made plenty of mistakes throughout my journey, like using the plant-based diet to somehow gain control over my life and use it to manipulate my body into something smaller.

Thank goodness for that difficult season, though, because I’ve redefined plant-based to mean kindness, compassion, & abundance for my own wellbeing and the wellbeing of this planet.

🎉 Cheers to 33 years of learning & living and more lessons with plants 🥦 in the years to come! 🎉

What are your fave grab n go snacks?

The postpartum hunger is in full force and I’m constantly needing something to munch on with one hand.

It’s not always easy to recognize my hunger in the first moment it hits, so many of my snack attacks come at a time where I need something STAT! Anyone else?

Intuitive eating doesn’t mean we ALWAYS respond to our hunger the second we feel it. But it does help to think ahead and have easy grab n go snacks available before the hunger gets uncomfortable. This is *gentle nutrition* and showing your body respect by having food accessible when you need it.

My plant-based snacks aren’t always the most nutrient-dense or “fancy”, but they don’t need to be. They’re intended to be satisfying & energizing to help get me to my next opportunity to eat (when I might have two hand available to eat).

What plant-based snacks should I add to my favorite’s list? Share below!

Did you miss part I about electrolytes? Check out my reel from last week if you want a spicy unpopular opinion on this topic.

Long story short: You can probably stop wasting so much money on electrolyte supplements.

Yes, electrolytes are important. Yes, it can be hard to get exactly what you need from food when we live the busy lives that we do. BUT, you might actually be doing more harm than good by chugging electrolyte supplements everyday.

As a non-diet & plant-based dietitian, I like to take a food-first approach to meeting our daily nutrient needs. Most of us can get plenty of electrolytes through a varied plant-based diet. 🥔🥑🍅🍌🥜

And, yes, electrolyte supplements CAN help in some circumstances… but have you tried adjusting the foods you eat first?

What are your thoughts on electrolyte supplements these days? 👇🏻

Share this post to help spread the word & bust these common myths & fear-mongering messages.

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
It’s not for weight loss.
It’s doesn’t mean vegan.
It requires a food-first approach.
You’ll need to eat more carbs. It’s okay.
