Language conceals and reveals
When a non-expert brings a strong point of view to a complex discussion, the words might not mean what they seem to mean.

What might be being said is, “I’m worried. I’m afraid. I don’t understand. I am looking for solace.”

Answering emotional word salad with logical insight doesn’t do anything at all for these feelings.

If the argument you’re hearing isn’t based on what we know to be true, and doesn’t lead to a logical conclusion, it could be because it’s not actually seeking to be a productive discussion.

It’s awkward to say “yadda, yadda” but that might be what’s on offer.

When in doubt, look for the emotions and desires behind the words. People often don’t want their arguments to be heard as much as they’re hoping their emotions will be.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: NEW DATES FOR ROAD CLOSURE ON LEWISTON ROAD AND I-20 INTERCHANGE
JANUARY 25-29, 2024

Predicted weather conditions for the weekend of January 18-22 are not conducive to the work that needs to be accomplished to be able to complete the Diverging Diamond Interchange. We apologize for any confusion this may cause.

The contractor for the Lewiston Rd Widening Project, ER Snell, will implement a 90-Hour Road Closure and Detour of Lewiston Rd / Horizon South Pkwy (SR388) at I-20 Exit 190 to finalize work related to the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) configuration conversion.

STARTING AT 12:00PM (NOON) ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2024, AND LASTING THROUGH 6:00AM ON MONDAY, JANUARY 29, 2024, WEATHER PERMITTING, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CLOSED:
• I-20 Exit 190 Interchange - There will be no traffic access between I-20 Exit 190 and Lewiston Rd / Horizon South Pkwy.
• I-20 Exit 190 Overpass – There will be no traffic permitted across the Lewiston Rd / Horizon South Pkwy overpass over I-20.
• Lewiston Rd between I-20 West Ramp and William Few Pkwy – There will be no through traffic permitted along this section of Lewiston Rd.
• Horizon South Pkwy between I-20 East Ramp and Gateway Blvd - There will be no through traffic permitted along this section of Horizon South Pkwy.

DURING THE AFOREMENTIONED CLOSURES, A DETOUR WILL BE POSTED FOR THE INTERCHANGE CLOSURE THAT WILL UTILIZE:
• I-20 Exit 183 Appling Harlem Hwy (US 221/SR 47) to the West
• I-20 Exit 194 South Belair Rd / Jimmie Dyess Pkwy) (SR 383) to the East
Columbia County and ER Snell will have staff monitoring and managing traffic conditions at and along the detour route as necessary.

This closure is required to construct the remaining portions of the diverging diamond interchange (DDI) that cannot be done while traffic is crossing the bridge or using the ramps. This work includes realignments of lanes, pouring curb and gutter, pouring concrete islands, placing pavement markings, and reconfiguring, reprograming, and testing of signal equipment. All of this work is required to place traffic in the new configuration.

WEATHER DEPENDING, it is expected that the ramps and through traffic reopen to vehicular traffic on Monday, January 29, 2024, by 6:00 AM. At this time, new traffic patterns will be in place that follow the new DDI lane configurations.
