Dates & Labor: What the Evidence Shows

Dates are one of the few natural foods with clinical research supporting their use in late pregnancy.

What studies found:
Women who ate dates daily from ~36–37 weeks were more likely to:
✔️ Have a more favorable cervix (higher Bishop score)
✔️ Enter labor spontaneously
✔️ Need less medical induction
✔️ Arrive in active labor more often

How dates may work:

1.Cervical ripening support

Contain compounds that may mimic prostaglandin-like effects
Help soften and prepare the cervix

2. Increase uterine readiness

May improve uterine response to oxytocin
Support more efficient contractions once labor starts

3.Energy + electrolyte support

Natural sugars + potassium
Help sustain energy for labor

Common clinical recommendation:

6 dates per day
Start at 36–37 weeks
Continue until labor begins

Important notes:

* Dates do NOT induce labor
* They support readiness, not trigger onset
* Use caution with gestational diabetes (due to sugar content)

Clinical takeaway:
Dates are best used as a cervical ripening and labor preparation support, especially when combined with:

* Movement
* Acupuncture
* Relaxation / oxytocin-supportive environment

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, but it’s finally here… the forever home of Holistic Acupuncture Santa Cruz.

I knew it was meant to be, but since signing the lease last December, I’ve had three pain attacks, something I had only experienced once before in my 40 years. It reminded me that big dreams ask a lot from us…

Today, that vision becomes real.

✨ Holistic Acupuncture Santa Cruz now has a home.
✨ And with it comes THE WOOM; a maternal hub for practitioners dedicated to supporting mothers, pregnancy, postpartum, traditions, spirituality, and the well-being of families.

Maternal care is one of the most neglected areas in our current medical system. Mothers need deeper, interconnected support, community, and holistic care and this space is being created to hold that vision.

What began as a dream is now a place where healing, collaboration, and community can grow.

This dream was never built alone.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me since the beginning. To my family and friends who showed up this space exists because of you too.

The doors are open. 🤍

Postpartum is a powerful transition for both mother and baby.
So much is shifting at once physically, emotionally, and spiritually. A mother is healing, adapting, learning, and responding to a completely new rhythm. Her nervous system is recalibrating at a remarkable pace.

The way she is supported during this window matters deeply.

At Holistic Acupuncture Santa Cruz, we support this transition through intentional, integrative care.

We combine acupuncture, nervous system regulation tools, herbal guidance, and lifestyle support rooted in Chinese medicine to help the body recover and restore balance.

Our sessions create space for mothers to slow down, be heard, and receive individualized care not just for physical healing, but for emotional grounding and resilience.

We collaborate with doulas, therapists, lactation consultants, and other maternal health professionals to ensure mothers feel supported from multiple angles. Because postpartum care works best when it is connected and community-based.

Care is not only about appointments or techniques.
It is about creating an environment where mothers feel safe, seen, and supported as whole people.

To the mothers walking through this season, and to the professionals committed to caring for them we are building this together.

🔥 Year of the Fire Horse 2026–2027 🔥

On February 17, 2026, we entered a rare 60-year cycle of bold Yang Fire energy a year of courage, movement, reinvention, and visionary expansion in the Chinese zodiac. The Horse brings independence and momentum. The Fire brings passion and transformation.

For me, this energy aligns perfectly with a new chapter: opening my own studio and expanding my vision for Holistic Acupuncture Santa Cruz.

This is not just about a new space.
It’s about building a hub for Doulas and holistic practitioners centered on maternal health and family wellness.

That’s why I created The W∞M 🤍
A place devoted to:
✨ Supporting mothers through every phase
✨ Nurturing families holistically
✨ Bringing together aligned practitioners under one roof
✨ Creating true community-centered care

Fire Horse energy asks us to move boldly but with intention.
To build bravely but stay grounded.
To expand without burning out.

This studio is a vision unfolding. A space for healing, collaboration, and transformation for our Santa Cruz families.

What bold step is calling you in this Fire Horse year and would you want to be part of this vision? 🌿🔥

Your body adapted to survive.
There is intelligence in that.
Symptoms are not failures; they are responses.
When the nervous system feels safe, it can soften.
Healing isn’t imposed.
It emerges through recognition, attention, space, awareness, connection.
This is one of the foundations of HASC

Appointments available after 1/20.
Life awaits✨

Next chapter 🌹

I met Glenn Kazmierski at the end of 2020 while searching for a mentor to complete my 2,136 internship hours, and he became so much more than that. At the time, I was at one of the lowest points in my life, feeling uncertain about my future and whether I would ever be able to practice in the States. I thought it might be the end of my path as a holistic practitioner and acupuncturist.

While I’m proud to be a co-founder of 11th Hour, my heart feels nourish from helping others reconnect with their inner strength, vitality and wisdom . Glenn opened the door for me and showed me what it takes to build a practice in California. He became both the rope that helped me climb the mountain and the lighthouse that guided me through uncertainty.

Since then, I’ve completed my hours, become a mother, and passed my board exams in January 2024 — with my 9-month-old baby waiting outside to cheer me on at the finish line.

Shortly after, Water Street became the first location for Holistic Acupuncture Santa Cruz, and this past Monday marked my last day there. I leave Tao Performance feeling grateful, strong, confident, and fulfilled — ready for the next chapter with Holistic Acupuncture Santa Cruz.

I continue to see patients at The Circle Family Center, and I’m also dedicating more time to my work as a birth doula at Watsonville Hospital, supporting families during one of life’s most profound transitions.

✨World Breastfeeding Week ✨
Nursing my baby was a conscious choice — one I wanted deeply. My mom didn’t breastfeed me or my siblings, not because she didn’t care, in my opinion she lacked the support mixed with social and medical ignorance to make it work. The baby formula industry was pushing really hard.

I grew up believing I wouldn’t be able to either but while pregnant, I reconnected with my body and my biology — and realized that I had it within me.

Breastfeeding hasn't been linear. Even having no problems such as mastitis or lack of supply I wanted to give up so many times. My first goal was 6 months… and here we are, 28 months later, still enjoying our “mee-mees” time.

Normalize breastfeeding. Stop shaming mothers for how long they nurse or ones who choose not at all
Support them so they can choose what’s right for them and their families — without fear, pressure, or misinformation. 💗

Happy Birthday to my 2025 person!
Hey Britta this post is for you You’ve truly changed the course of my life — from helping me find my place as an acupuncturist at The Circle , to encouraging me to enroll Naia in the Cabrillo School program. Your generosity and sweet heart are unmatched.

You are the glue of this community — a true connector, supporter, and a life warrior. I’m so grateful for you. May this year give back to you all the love you so freely give to others
