• Buffer time = kindness to people taking care of you and the ones behind you in line
• Breathe + move = kindness to your nervous system

Sharing your famous casserole this Thanksgiving? Let's keep it delicious AND safe! 🥘🌡️

The 2-Hour Rule is your holiday helper: Don't leave perishable foods at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if it's over 90°F).

Quick food safety checklist for potluck pros:
✅ Keep hot foods HOT (above 140°F) – use slow cookers or warming trays
✅ Keep cold foods COLD (below 40°F) – pack with ice or frozen gel packs
✅ Use a food thermometer – turkey should reach 165°F
✅ Pack serving utensils for each dish
✅ When in doubt, throw it out!

Sharing good food safely means more happy memories and fewer tummy troubles. Your Emergency Department staff thanks you! 😊

Trying to give your kids the holiday you never had? That's beautiful. Exhausting yourself to do it? That's not healing—it's harming. 💔➡️❤️

Many of us parent from our wounds, especially during the holidays. But in trying to heal your inner child, you might be wounding your actual children with your stress, exhaustion, and impossible standards. Remember: “Different from your childhood” doesn’t require “perfect”.

The healing truth: You already broke the cycle by caring this much. That's enough. YOU are enough.

Give yourself now what you needed then: grace, acceptance, and permission to be human.

What childhood holiday wound are you ready to stop passing on? 💚

Today is National Rural Health Day, and we're celebrating the heart of rural healthcare – our incredible team! 🏥💚

Thank you to every nurse, doctor, technician, and team member who chooses to serve our Humboldt community. You don't just provide healthcare – you provide it with the personal touch that makes Mad River Community Hospital special.

Your dedication keeps Humboldt healthy, and we couldn't be prouder!

Your workout routine is about to get hijacked by holiday chaos. And that's normal! But movement doesn't have to disappear completely. Park farther away while shopping, take a walk after dinner, stretch while watching football. Even 10 minutes counts. The goal isn't maintaining your summer fitness level - it's just not losing momentum entirely.

"Everyone feels down in winter" might be the most dangerous myth about Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Winter Blues:
• Mild energy dip
• Wishing for spring
• Still enjoying activities
• Manageable with self-care

Seasonal Affective Disorder:
• Significant impairment in daily life
• Withdrawing from people you love
• Unable to concentrate at work/school
• Sleep and appetite dramatically changed
• Hopelessness that feels crushing
• Physical symptoms (heaviness in limbs)
• Happens every fall/winter

When we minimize SAD as "winter blues everyone has," people don't seek help. But SAD is a subtype of major depression. It's real, it's biochemical, and it's treatable.

Know someone struggling? Share this post. Sometimes seeing it in writing gives people permission to seek help. 💙
