This week, our stations for Sensory Fun classes (18 months - 5 years) were inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s art. She is sometimes called, “The Princess of Polka Dots,” because much of her artwork has dots. We were inspired to create our own polka dot “room” by putting white and brown paper on the underside of a table and on the walls. We decorated it with dot stickers and markers. We also painted with q-tips and cotton balls to create dots. Our most popular station was mixing colorful liquid watercolors into white shaving cream! Next week our artist inspiration will come from Calder.

It was an awesome turnout for Cozy Craft Club on Friday afternoon from 3:30-5! The group of children engaged in lots of projects, from sand art to dioramas to embroidery. They loved getting to try out a whole variety of different things and kept asking if we could do it every Friday! We told them not EVERY Friday, but we’d definitely do it again soon :) (they also wanted to sleep over at the studio 😂)

Watercolor spray art with the Afternoon Art Explorers! Children arranged real flowers and plastic manipulatives on their papers and then sprayed with liquid watercolors. Then, they picked up the objects to reveal the white space left behind. They turned those spaces into drawings, inspired by Beautiful Oops (a favorite book!).

Cozy Craft Club is the perfect creative hangout for kids in 2nd–6th grade! 🧶✨ Bring your own projects (knitting, crocheting, and more) and craft alongside friends, or dive into our studio supplies—make woven yarn mandalas, explore our makerspace with loose parts, and let your imagination lead the way. A relaxed, creative time to make, chat, and create together!
