"Teaching is one of the most relational parts of academic life — you invest in people and often don’t see the full impact until much later," says Dr. Denise Rhoney, Ronald and Nancy McFarlane Distinguished Professor at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, upon the announcement of her 2026 Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award from AACP.

"This award feels less like an endpoint and more like affirmation that the work of continuously trying to improve how we help learners think, grow, and become professionals truly matters.”

🥳🏅 Congratulations to Dr. Rhoney, Dr. Aleda M.H. Chen (UAMS College of Pharmacy) and Dr. Jenny A. Van Amburgh (Northeastern University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) for being named 2026 Distinguished Teaching Scholars; and to all recipients of our top awards for 2026!

🏅📚 Earlier this month, AJPE leadership honored the editorial legacy of Dr. Gayle Brazeau, editor-in-chief from 2014-2025, recounting the operational improvements, editorial integrity and invaluable mentorship she provided in her 21 years with the Journal.

"In a 2024 Journal piece, Dr. Brazeau observed that 'Leaving a position of power at any level of ‘titled’ leadership is never easy,'" wrote the authors.

"Indeed, her departure from our team will certainly not be easy."

☕ From our last Coffee Chat, with AACP EVP & CEO Lee Vermeulen:

Q: "There's so many pharmacy organizations out there. Why should I be involved with AACP as well?"

A: “AACP is unique. It is the only association that represents all of pharmacy education. I think it is really important for every member of our faculty across all 141 schools and colleges of pharmacy, as well as the professional staff who keep our colleges and schools running, to be engaged in AACP. It is a concentrated way of understanding and learning about innovation in education and having a role in guiding the direction we are taking in education.

[AACP] allows you to have a voice as we have conversations with ACPE around accreditation standards and with NABP regarding how our graduates and pharmacy programs become licensed. When you come to an AACP meeting and take part in our activities, everyone around you shares that interest in pharmacy .”
