2. Bone conduction testing (BC) is coupled with air conduction (AC) to determine whether or not the hearing loss is sensorineural or conductive. This is important to determine treatment for the loss. This test is conducted by using a headband with an ossicilator to deliver sound directly to the cochlea.

Pure tone testing is the first component of any comprehensive hearing exam. Your hearing professional will conduct this test by using headphones or inserts to send a signal that travels through your ear canal, through your middle ear to reach your inner ear. It measures your sound sensitivity to determine whether or not a hearing loss is present.
