[05/29/20] Over the past several months, I have been transitioning from my solo practice to a group practice. I officially began with Finding Your Solutions Counseling Group in February but with everything going on in the world over the past couple of months I am just now making it official on Facebook. I will continue to offer the same services along side many wonderful therapists.
[02/12/20] Hello all! I wanted to share this wonderful video with all of you. If you have heard me talk about anxiety you have likely heard me talk about Lynn Lyons and her work. I stumbled upon her work a few years ago and knew that I needed to know more about her model. I love her model and how she approaches her work with children and families. I hope you will enjoy it as well.
[07/07/19] Announcement: My workshop on July 15th has been postponed. There were a couple of issue with timing and location so we have postponed the event. I will keep you posted when it gets rescheduled. Thank you.

A great read!
"I’ve noticed something recently, in my practice and in my own family: when we’re rushed, it’s just easier for us to do the problem solving for our kids. When the clock is ticking, we want to just tell them what to do. No messin’ around. No trial and error. You’re good at time management, for example, so take over, bark instructions, keep things going..."

[08/03/16] Important note: Apparently, a former business gmail account of mine was hacked and is sending out requests for personal information. This email was not sent from me so please do not open it. I am working on the problem and I apologize for any issues this may caused.
[05/09/16] If you are curious about the mental health services in Loudoun County or have considered services for your child (but were not sure were to start) please come out on Thursday May 12th from 7-8:30 for a meet and greet with local mental health professionals. The event is held at the LCPS Adm Offices at 2100 Education Court, Room 100B in Ashburn. If you have questions, you can call the Office of Student Services (571-252-1017). I will be there so stop and say hello!
The past couple of weeks have been busy for many parents and their children. As the school year came to end, parents were asked to attend and participate in class parties, awards ceremonies, and graduation celebrations. As a mom, I feel it is important for me to be involved in my children’s school and attend as many of those events as I can because I can see in their faces how much it matters to them. As much as I hate to admit it, I found myself daydreaming a bit this year as I attended a fifth grade graduation ceremony. I remember thinking I need to call my mom after this and tell her thank you for sitting through years of these types of events as I was going through school. At some point during my daydream, I left my mom role and entered into my psychologist role. As several children were recognized for the wonderful accomplishments they made this past year, I could not help but think of those children who did not get an award. As a psychologist, I frequently test children and adults who have been voted least likely to get an academic award, yet they too accomplished great things this past year. I thought about those children with math disabilities who spend hours and hours preparing for a math test that other kids aced even though they forgot about the test altogether. I thought about the anxious child who vomits every morning prior to leaving for school due to anxieties and fears that she cannot understand or verbalize, yet she still goes. I thought about the child with slow processing speed who has significant difficulty attending to lecture and taking notes because the class moves so much faster than he is able to process, yet he is determined to pass the class so he pushes harder to keep up. Many of these children won’t get an award for academics. In fact, most people will never know how hard those kids had to work just to get by. As I allowed myself to ponder these thoughts, I felt the emotion rising up in me. I wept for these beautiful children who are saddled with social, emotional, and academic problems that make even simple tasks extremely challenging. To the children who fall into this category (and their parents), I want to let you know that your struggles will make you stronger, better, and more accepting of others like you. I also want you to know that I see you – I see the struggles you have overcome and I admire you so much for not giving up.
To those children who did walk out of their awards ceremony with a fancy piece of paper that honored their accomplishment, let me say congratulations. I am so proud of you. It feels great to be acknowledged for your hard work. Please know that my previously expressed thoughts were in no intended to take away from those special accomplishments. It has been a good year. Enjoy your summer vacation!
