Restorative Yoga Event
Are you looking for an antidote for stress? The good news is that we have an answer for you. What is it? Restorative Yoga by Laura Banks on March 17, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Joyoga. $24 per person. No yoga experience or mat necessary.
In our society we live with what they call chronic stress. The effects have reached epidemic proportions in our lives, and stress-related diseases have become a medical specialty. Regardless of what triggers your stress, it is often accompanied by one or more negative effects like impatience, frustration irritation, anger, muscle tension, headache, indigestion, or poor elimination to name a few. Stress can compound within us and become chronic which can lead to disease.
This type of relaxation is the antidote for stress. To relax is to rest deeply. This rest is different from sleep. Relaxation is a state in which there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet. During Restorative Yoga you are putting your body in a comfortable position using props, with gentle attention directed toward the breath. Come try it!
Please register at www.joyoga.us/calendar or call Joy at 703.850.8386.

Recipe for RED KURI SQUASH SOUP
Hi Friends – I wanted to share a delicious and brightly colorful soup with you.
1 RED KURI SQUASH (organic if possible) 2 to 3 pds.
1 quart vegetable stock
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion (preferably yellow)
1 organic sweet apple cored and sliced
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
a pinch of cayenne pepper
1 to 2 teaspoons of salt
½ tsp. freshly ground pepper
Turn oven on to 350 degrees. Split your squash in half and clean the seeds from the center. Take a 9 x 13 dish and put 1 ½ cups of water in it then place the squash skin side down into the water. Bake until the squash is tender.
Clean the squash out from the skin and put into a bowl or container if you want to do this step a day ahead.
In stockpot place the 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add onion and sauté until it begins to brown, about 10-15 mn.
Add apple, cinnamon, cayenne, and a dash of salt and sauté until the apples are soft and lightly browned, about 5-8 minutes.
Now combine your squash and vegetable broth with the above ingredients and use your hand held blender to puree the soup. You may add more stock or water if the soup is too thick.
Season with salt to your taste and serve with ground pepper on top. Serve hot. You may add a dallop of crème francaise on top (totally optional).
This soup is delicious on those chilly fall and winter days as well as stocked with plenty of nutrition!

[03/19/15] Preparing for a new Seniors Yoga class to begin on Tuesdays at 10 am!
Erin's Transformation through running and yoga! See her story below:
I have been a runner for long time and have dabbled in yoga over the years. After several half-marathons and intensive race training all year last year, I knew I needed to add something to my routine for meditation and stretching. When Joyoga opened here in Ashburn, I was thrilled and jumped right into the beginners classes. My goals were simple – take some me time, begin stretching, and enjoy a consistent yoga practice.
This past weekend, a friend of mine posted the picture on the left from a training run last summer. I had been running a ton (100 miles or so a month) and this was just before my 3rd half marathon. I was SHOCKED to compare that to the picture on the right, taken this past Saturday on a trail run. I have not changed my diet and have actually been running a bit less due to the weather, etc. The ONLY difference is a weekly yoga practice.
Thank you Joyoga for making my life so much better AND for the added benefit of a pre-baby body!!!
[02/02/15] Ange and Joyoga are offering a $25 discount on massages during February. Schedule now and enjoy the benefits of a relaxing massage! See offer on www.joyoga.us.
[01/15/15] The students that have been coming are very dedicated and exciting to work with. I am so thankful for the opportunity to learn from each one of them as they are beginning their own yoga journeys. Different challenges and paths have brought each one to joyoga. We are enjoying building a sense of community here that is uplifting and safe. Recently, I have two seniors who have started a Beginners Class. It is motivating for me to see people come at any age and learn the benefits of yoga in their lives. I am very blessed to meet each one.
A healthy start for several neighbors and members of "Ashburn, VA Moms RUN This Town" - see page. The new Vinyasa Flow led by Mary Edara helped work mind, body and breath for these runners and for several other regular students attending from the neighborhood. To bring the healing benefits of yoga to my local adult community and to include populations that may have never seen yoga as an option.
The Joyoga mission is to help all students experience yoga in a safe place and to learn the connection of body, breath and spirit. I have always believed that the body is healthy when our physical, mental and spiritual components are balanced. Yoga actually is the yoking of all three and affects the health of our whole being. I have heard people say, "I could never do yoga." However, I know that all people at any age are able to benefit from this practice.
