Welcome to Easy Day Yoga!! Located at Goose Creek Village of Ashburn, EDY is where you can immerse yourself in the ancient practice of Yoga/Meditation

Our intention is to offer a space in our community where we can practice compassion, mindfulness, love, and creativity. Easy Day Yoga welcomes all who are seeking a state of peace and happiness. We keep our hearts open in embracing diversity, and will work to support our growth both on and off the mat.

This month we're taking a look at Parsvottanasana, which translates to Intense Side Stretch Pose, but is also widely and more commonly known as Pyramid pose. Parsvottanasana is a beautiful (and sometimes intense) stretch for the hamstrings and calf muscles that also helps calm the mind.

We're really excited about Woven Green joining us here at Easy Day Yoga for a Sound Healing experience on Saturday, April 20th at 1pm!

This will be a fully immersive sound healing workshop designed specifically to attune and activate the 7 energy centers within the body. The workshop will begin with centering, group chanting/ chakra vocal toning, and light yoga poses to prepare for the extended sound healing meditation.

Chakra vocal toning sound attunement is an energetic activation and re-balancing of the Chakra system (or energy centers in the body). Attendees will be gently guided through the process of humming or toning through each Chakra. The program concludes with an extended savasana sound bath meditation that is designed to enhance inner vision.

Meet Jim Vivacqua!

Jim has been with us since April of 2015, and we absolutely love and adore him! His smile and energy always brightens up the studio, and his humor and wit make classes so much fun! It's always a good day when Jim walks through the front door!

In his own words:
"I came to Easy Day several years ago when I was looking to understand and begin a meditation practice. I tried without (what I believed) much success on and off for years. After speaking at length with Azi, I knew that Easy Day was the right place to begin this new journey. Who knew about the miracle of the breath. It's cliche, I know, but the experience was life altering.

"With gentle encouragement from Azi, I added Yoga to my practice. That is when Kanta and Kate came into my practice and into my life. At my own pace, I began to learn the simple practices of yoga with gentle classes. Those, combined with Kanta's Mindful Yoga for Stress Reduction, set the foundation for my practice. And as I felt that I could do more, I added Kate's Hatha classes. A year ago, my wife Joan started coming to Easy Day with me. Enjoying our practices together in a nurturing and loving yogic community has become an essential part of our lives.

"We live in a complicated time, with chaos all around. Opening our hearts to the goodness that surrounds us and sharing the light that is within each of us is a reminder that we can influence the direction our journey takes."

Join Denyse Peterson for this amazing weekend workshop and dive into the essence of teaching Yin and Restorative Yoga!

Saturday, April 6th 12:30pm - 7:30pm
Sunday, April 7th 10:30am - 4:30pm

This modality combines specific sequencing of breath awareness, guided meditation, yin yoga and restorative yoga. Upon completion of the full training program, students will be able to successfully lead a yin/restorative class to help manage stress, relieve pain and reconnect body, mind and spirit.

16 YA CEs: 12 contact plus 4 hours non-contact hours.
The non-contact hours include 2 homework assignments that must be completed within 3 months, and 2 half- hour mentoring sessions to be completed after receipt of each assignment. Students will be eligible for 16 YA CECs, be certified by Virginia Yoga Therapy as a Yin/Restorative Instructor, and be fully qualified to teach either a Yin, Restorative or Combination class upon completion of the course requirements and assignments.

Prerequisite: Must be currently enrolled in a
200-hr YTT or be a graduate of a 200-hr YTT

Join Kate Donelon at 11am on Sunday for an inspiring practice that will incorporate a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective to achieve a sense of flexibility and eliminate any stagnation in order to move more freely toward our goals and intentions.

Meet June Knesl!

June started sharing her kind heart with us back in 2016, and we all quickly fell in love with her. But then life carried her across the pond and we thought we had lost her to more adventurous terrain. Then one March evening this past year she walked back through the door like no time had passed and we all leapt to our feet in joy at her return! It's hard not to smile when she's in the room, and we're so honored that she keeps sharing her smile with us at Easy Day!

"I have been practicing yoga and meditation for over 40 years. My practice consistently helped me maintain calmness and inner peace in the midst of a stressful life and career. Over the years I have been exposed to many yoga studios, some good, some not so good. Sometimes there just isn't time in a class to explain all of the great benefits of a posture, to talk about all of the energetic and physical systems at play, and to get into the nitty gritty of cues. So our hope is to demystify the practice a bit more, and make these postures more accessible with our Posture Spotlights.

Our first Spotlight is on Virabhadrasana II, also known as Warrior II. You're hard pressed to make it through an entire yoga class without ending up in Warrior II at least once. This foundational pose may seem simple, but there is a lot going on if you're fully engaging in the pose. Check it out and maybe you'll learn something new!

Sit comfortably for five minutes and be present with your breath. Feel your body as it expands on the inhale, and gently contracts on the exhale. Every time your mind wanders, just compassionately bring it back to your breath.

Day-to-day activities, such as poor posture and repetitive movements, contribute to imbalances in the soft tissues that cause pain, discomfort, and stiffness. With just a tennis ball and your own body weight, you can learn how to target areas of tension to provide relief from pain, increase flexibility, and rebuild range of motion.
This workshop will focus on a myofascial release practice for the whole body and provide some simple techniques that can be practiced at home.

After a short series of yoga postures, tennis balls will be used to pinpoint various muscles and trigger points and ease into releasing these areas.

Susan started her yoga journey over 15 years ago. She started out taking classes at gyms and watching yoga DVDs. But it wasnโ€™t until 2005/2006, that the real โ€œawakeningโ€ took place. That was when she took her first yoga class at a true yoga studio. Since then, her life has been transformed.

She received her 200-hour certification for Prana Flowยฎ from Samudra School for Living Yoga affiliate program with Maria Garre. Susan has had the wonderful opportunity to study with master teachers like Shana Meyerson, Cora Wen, and Shiva Rea. She is inspired by Vinyasa styles of yoga (like Prana Flow & Baptiste) and incorporates them in her classes but honestly loves all limbs of the yogic path. In 2011, she attended the OM yoga Women Cancer Survivors Teacher Training with Tari Prinster in New York City. The amazing experience was humbling nevertheless it increased her desire to serve and give back to her community.

Through yoga, Susan would like to be a source of healing in the world. Although she is still a work in progress, yoga has given her the strength inside and out to live each day with compassion and a positive outlook. Susan notices how yoga calms her soul and only wishes to share that with her students. She teaches with the seasons combining her knowledge of the Chakras, meridian lines & Ayurveda. Susan teaches Goat Yoga classes in Loudoun County and is also a Reiki Master as well as a Licensed Master Esthetician.
