Today is World Prematurity Day!
15 million of babies are born alive before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Approximately, 1 million children die each year due to complications of preterm birth. More than three quarters of premature babies can be saved with feasible, cost-effective care, such as essential care during child birth and in the postnatal period for every mother and baby. Preventing deaths and complications from preterm birth starts with a healthy pregnancy. Quality care before, between and during pregnancies will ensure all women have a positive pregnancy experience . (WHO, 2018). Another study supports the importance of exercise in pregnancy. A month after birth , babies whose mothers had exercised , displayed advanced neoromotor skills comparing to infants that their mothers did not exercise in pregnancy. The same study also suggests that maternal exercise in pregnancy may potentially reduce childhood risk of obesity. The study was published in Medicine &Science in Sports and Exercise August 2019 . #cwcashburn#exerciseinpregnancy#pregnancy#womenshealth #workout#physicalactivityandhealth#fit4mom#obgyn
