I am Geraldine Stile-Killian, a family nurse practitioner, who is also certified in advanced diabetes management. My experience includes labor and delivery, neonatal nursing, school nursing, women’s health, community health primary care, wellness, weight loss management and specialization in diabetes management.

I have been working in the field of nursing for almost 30 years. While I treasured my time as a nurse I have always wanted to offer personalized care via my own practice. In 2007, I obtained my Family Nurse Practitioner degree through the George Mason University/George Washington University Medical School collaborative Nurse Practitioner program. Since then, I have cared for patients while working in various locations; patients from all stages of life, newborn through the elderly.

My husband and I have been in Leesburg since 2000. In my time out of the office, I enjoy playing the piano, dancing, and quilting.

In our rapidly changing healthcare system, I have seen many people who struggle to obtain healthcare even if they have insurance. Many have high deductibles that they must reach prior to utilizing their insurance. Many more are still uninsured.

I wanted to give people another option, so I opened my practice: Caring Center. I offer excellent healthcare that is the best care for your dollar. I will greet you at the door, obtain your medical history, give you a physical exam, order your labs/imaging/medications, and will call you with the results. I approach each patient with wellness in mind.

At the Caring Center, we treat acute problems, for example: ear infections, sinusitis, and urinary tract infections. We also handle chronic disease management. Diabetes is a chronic disease in which I specialize. We treat other chronic diseases such as obesity, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), and hypertension (high blood pressure). We work with our patients to help them make changes in their life regarding nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress reduction. We encourage our patients to take a more active role in their healthcare to maximize wellness and minimize medications.

[05/26/15]   After your comfort food weekend, which we all deserve every once in a while, time to get back at it tomorrow. Go for that walk. Twice this week at least. Count those carbs. [03/21/15]   Today is the first Weight Management Group at Caring Center, starts at 10:00 am. Great recipe if you like Brussels Sprouts, and even if you might not...:

You need: Brussels Sprouts-about 20, Shallots-3, pistachios out of the shell, like 1\2 cup, less is ok too, Sriracha sauce, salt and pepper.

Dish Spicy Index-Depends on how much Sriracha-I'd suggest 1\4 teaspoon for virtually no spiciness, but great taste. Add more if you want more of a kick-or put it in a small bowl to the side for folks to add as they wish.

Take the 1\2 cup of pistachios and put them on a cookie sheet and lightly toast-I'd say put them under a broiler for like 1 minute maybe....toastiness of pistachios not critical to overall dish...nice to just get right. So one minute. Not longer.

Anyway, here we go:

2 Tsp peanut oil in a wok, slice up 3 shallots in the oil and heat on high heat for 3ish minutes, until they are translucent;

Take about 20ish Brussels Sprouts (4ish cups) and slice them as well;

Reduce the heat a bit and add them to the shallots;

Stir it all constantly for 3 more minutes or so, they should turn greener than green;

Add the pistachios, 1\2 tsp salt, 1\2 tsp pepper, and that 1\4 t of
Sriracha. Mix\stir for like another couple of minutes. Serve as a side dish, or enjoy it all for a good vegetarian meal.

This is a low sugar, low sodium (leave out the salt if you wish), low calorie tasty side dish (most of the calories are in the reduce if you wish). Enjoy!
