It's so good to be back in Asheville, a place where the mountains echo the peace found by the Greek sea. Our time in Greece was a truly wonderful experience, especially for our children who had the incredible opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and language.

Now, with hearts full of sunshine and a renewed sense of groundedness, I'm so happy to be back on the mat with you all.
My first class back was such a joy, filled with warmth, hugs, and even the sweet surprise of chocolate chip cookies and balloons—a warm reminder of the community we share. The Woodfin YMCA is a special place. 💜

If you're looking to weave a little more stillness into your week, I invite you to join my weekly Patreon Meditation community. We meet every Tuesday at 8:30 PM EST for about 30 minutes. It's a beautiful opportunity to practice together, ask questions, and review material in a supportive space. The link is in my bio—I would love to see you there!

And for those curious about beginning or deepening their meditation practice, I'm thrilled to announce an Intro to Meditation workshop starting October 1st at the Woodfin YMCA. More details to come soon!

Navigate Uncertainty. Master Your Mind.
Feeling the ground shift beneath your feet? In times like these, "helpful" is just noise. What you truly need is essential. That's where a grounded, mindful practice comes in.

I'm excited to announce my new "Cultivating Mindful Awareness" 5-Day Meditation Series, launching first on Patreon July 6th! This isn't just another meditation series; it's a journey designed to help you discover what genuinely resonates with YOUR unique practice.

Here's a glimpse into our path together:
* July 6 - Day 1: Body Sensations. Step out of the thought stream to ground yourself in your present-moment experience.
* July 7 - Day 2: Breath. A free, always-available resource for strengthening concentration and finding stillness when overwhelmed.
* July 8 - Day 3: Body Scan. Gently explore your body, systematically guiding your attention through sensations to foster a calmer connection to your inner world.
* July 9 - Day 4: Observing the Flow of Experience (Noting Method). See your mind's patterns by silently noting where your attention lands.
* July 10 - Day 5: Awareness. Experience the vastness of pure awareness itself, the space where thoughts and feelings arise and pass, cultivating a clear and stable presence.
* July 11 - BONUS Day 6: Walking Meditation (Patreon only!). Take your awareness off the cushion and into your everyday movement. Exclusively for my Patreon community.

For just $5 a month, you'll gain early access to the first 5 days of this transformative series before its wider release on YouTube and Spotify. Plus, you get that exclusive Day 6, all my meditations ad-free, and live weekly sessions with me!

This isn't about escaping reality; it's about learning to navigate it with clarity and calm.

The world feels so heavy right now. One headline seems worse than the last, and that familiar tension, that angry energy, can leave us feeling overwhelmed and disconnected.

I've been leaning deeply into Loving-Kindness meditation (Metta, or Maitri in Sanskrit). It might sound a little "woo-woo" at first, but stick with me. This ancient practice is a powerful way to offset the chaos, helping us intentionally cultivate feelings of warmth, goodwill, and kindness for ourselves and others.

When we approach issues from a place of groundedness and an open heart, we're often better equipped to communicate, connect, and persist in the long fight for justice, rather than reacting from a place of overwhelm or anger that can lead to exhaustion. It's about building our inner resilience so we can contribute more powerfully to the outer world.

Because truly, when so much feels out of control, finding that wellspring of compassion within is more vital than ever. It's simpler than you might think.

You start by gently offering these wishes:
* May I be safe
* May I be healthy
* May I be happy
* May I be peaceful

As you repeat each phrase, allow the warmth of these intentions to settle and expand within you, radiating from your heart like the sun's rays.

Then, you can explore extending these same wishes to a loved one, a neutral person, and, when you feel ready, even to someone you find challenging (tip: it's often best not to start with the most challenging person).

I've dropped a link in my bio for my guided loving-kindness meditation, professionally edited just for you. Find a quiet moment and give it a try. See how it feels. 💜

For those who already have a Metta practice, I'd love to hear what phrases you use and how the practice resonates with you in the comments!

Take a deep breath and simply listen. 💜

The journey from Patra to Kalamata is marked by many tolls, but on a recent trip, it was also marked by an unexpected melody. A chorus of birdsong erupted from under the tollbooth's roof. Hundreds of birds flying to and fro, chirping away, a symphony of Spring.

‘Do you enjoy hearing them?' I asked the attendant. 'I don't even notice it anymore,' she replied.

That moment struck me deeply, a stark reminder of how easily we slip into autopilot, missing the magic of each moment. How often do we tune out the beauty around us, lost in the constant chatter of our minds?

Mindfulness practices, like meditation, are the antidote.

It's a practice of waking up to the world, of training ourselves to gently shift our focus from the endless stream of thought and truly seeing the beauty that's always there.
Let's not let the wonders of life become background noise.

If you'd like to cultivate this inner quiet and become more attuned to the beautiful moments around you, try my "Finding Stillness" guided meditation or explore my other offerings on YouTube and Spotify. Links in bio.

🎥 While I couldn't record the toll booth magic, I hope you enjoy the birdsong soundtrack to this sunset. 🌅

This window view in Kalamata, with the endless blue of the ocean, has become a sweet backdrop for my practice lately. But the truth is, my mat has known messy corners: piles of laundry, dust bunnies under the bed, the half-finished projects on the desk, and the general chaos of everyday life.

The practice isn't about the perfect setting, or waiting for ideal conditions, or clearing everything away first. It's simply about showing up – wherever you are, just as you are. It's about finding that stillness amidst the mess, that breath within the noise. Whether your view is the endless ocean or a stack of unfolded laundry, remember that your practice is valid.

I'm soaking in this beauty while it's here, being present with each breath and each day until we return to Asheville. And even when I'm back home, surrounded by the familiar clutter of my own space, the truth remains: the focus of practice lies within, not in what surrounds us. Because presence is the true view we seek.

So, wherever you're carving out time today – be it a bright studio or your own quiet corner – remember that your practice is real and valuable, perfect setting or not.

p.s. Definitely feeling that Gomukhasana in the hips today!

Life is a collection of tiny wonders, often missed in the rush: The way someone smiles, the burst of color from blooming flowers, that first sweet bite of a strawberry, the warmth of your morning coffee or tea. And those hugs? The ones you linger in just a little longer? I love long hugs. 🤗

But are you truly present for these gifts? Or is your mind racing ahead, chasing a future "happy," or perhaps dwelling on the past? Do you find yourself saying, "I'll be happy when..."?

Take a pause, right now. Breathe in. Breathe out. And become aware of the beautiful little moments unfolding in front of you—it may involve setting aside your phone for a bit. 😉
These moments are always there, waiting to be noticed. ☀️

That’s mindfulness in a nutshell. Remember, it’s a practice. Be patient with yourself, and keep trying. 💜

P.S. Speaking of unexpected joys and being present, my yoga practice was delightfully interrupted! My son decided to video bomb it, a funny and sweet little moment made even better by his choice of footwear: one lonely, green Grinch sock. 😂
