🌿 Four Years Ago Today, We Danced Barefoot in the Grass…

On May 1st, 2021 — while the world was shut down — something sacred happened in the hills outside Asheville.

We called it The Shindig at Shope.

It was more than a music festival.

It was a reclaiming of joy, community, and truth — with live bands, fire-spinners, barefoot children, local food, and a bonfire that lit up the mountain sky.

We gathered in defiance of isolation — and in devotion to life.

And it changed everything.

From that single day came:

✨ A nature-based school: The Appalachian Academy of Therapeutic Arts
✨ A weekly Freedom Farmers Market with up to 200 people each week
✨ A vibrant community grounded in health, sovereignty, and connection

Though our school closed after Hurricane Helene, the memories are forever.

The children who learned in the forest, the families who met at market, the music that moved our souls — it all began on that one sunny day.

And now… we’re continuing the story.

Meet Our Chef!
Chef Nate Meharg's interest in cooking began as a kid by helping his parents and grandparents in the kitchen. He pursued this interest after college by attending culinary school in Austin, Texas. From Austin he moved to New Orleans, LA where he honed his skills by working in some of the top restaurants in the city, several of them being James Beard award winners and finalists. Chef Nate has over 22 years of kitchen experience and draws his inspirations from the seasonality of ingredients and from his southern upbringing and the influences on this southern cuisine from different areas around the world, including the Caribbean, West African, French and Spanish.

Hey all!
We will be hosting a zoom meeting on Monday, April 29th at 7pm to answer questions and provide details about the 24-25 MS/HS offerings.

I'm inviting you and your teen (if possible) to attend this meeting, AND, if you have any specific questions you'd like to ask beforehand, to make sure we don't miss them, please dm me.

We will also be spending some time discussing Home School Dual Enrollment in Community College and issuing Home School High School Diplomas.

I look forward to seeing you then, and jumping into a grand adventure of learning, life and discovery!
