Last week Red Cedar Transitions took a group of clients to a local community dodgeball event, and it was an incredible experience! There’s something about the energy of play that brings people together in ways that nothing else can. Whether it’s the shared laughter, the competition, or just the joy of moving your body, play creates a sense of belonging and connection that is essential for our well-being.

Community is built through shared experiences, and when we step out of our daily routines and engage in something fun and lighthearted, we create bonds that help us feel seen, supported, and understood. Play isn’t just for kids, it’s a powerful tool for adults too. It helps reduce stress, improve mood, and foster emotional resilience.

At Red Cedar, we believe that moments like these are just as important as the serious work we do. Play helps us relax, recharge, and re-connect with one another, which ultimately boosts our mental and emotional health.

What activity can you do to bring more play and connection into your life this week?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps individuals recognize and accept difficult emotions, thoughts, and experiences while committing to actions that align with their values. For parents, educators, and young adults, ACT is an effective way to build resilience, reduce anxiety, and move toward a life filled with meaning.
ACT is not about changing your thoughts or emotions, but learning to live with them in a way that doesn’t stop you from reaching your potential.

So often, we think of emotions like aversion or attachment as simple feelings that come and go. But what if these feelings are actually signals for deeper work? When we feel strongly attached to something, or when we have a strong aversion to it, it can point us toward unresolved emotions, old wounds, or areas where we need to grow.

These emotions are an invitation to look inward and ask ourselves:

Why do I feel so attached to this? What need is it fulfilling?
What am I avoiding by pushing this away?
What can I learn from my feelings about this situation?

Instead of resisting or suppressing these feelings, we can use them as clues to unlock growth and healing. The work begins when we lean into discomfort, examine our emotions, and explore what they are teaching us.

What is a feeling of attachment or aversion trying to tell you right now?

After the devastation of Hurricane Helene, the blooming trees and vibrant flowers of Asheville serve as a beautiful reminder of renewal. As nature begins to heal, so do we. The sunshine feels brighter, the air feels fresher, and with each passing day, the world feels a little more like itself again.

At Red Cedar Transitions, we’re embracing the healing power of nature by getting outside more often—whether it’s hiking through the mountains or participating in group activities under the open sky. Nature has an incredible way of grounding us, offering space to process emotions, find clarity, and connect with others in a meaningful way.

There’s something about the sunshine that nourishes our mental health and lifts our spirits. It’s in the quiet moments of a hike, the conversations shared with others, and the peace that comes with being present in the beauty around us.

As we embrace the energy of spring and continue to heal from the impact of the storm, we invite our community to join us in reconnecting with nature, our mental health, and each other.

What outdoor activity brings you the most peace and healing?

Shame can be a silent force that holds us back, preventing us from stepping into our full potential. It often tells us that we are "not enough" or that we don’t deserve love or happiness. But in reality, shame is just a message from our past—one that needs to be acknowledged and released.
Healing from shame requires vulnerability, acceptance, and self-compassion. By confronting the beliefs we’ve carried about ourselves, we can begin to free ourselves from shame’s grip and reclaim our power.
What would it feel like to release shame and embrace your authentic self?

At Red Cedar Transitions, we believe in the power of community and supporting those who need it most. That’s why we are proud to volunteer with Root Cause, a non-profit organization based in Fairview, North Carolina. Root Cause is dedicated to alleviating food insecurity and building a regenerative, equitable, and resilient food system. Through their work, they grow thousands of pounds of organic produce, which is directly distributed to local families in need.

Volunteering with Root Cause is more than just lending a hand; it’s about connecting to something bigger than ourselves. It’s about giving back to the community, learning new skills, and most importantly, finding purpose in helping others. The impact we make doesn’t just nourish bodies—it nourishes hearts and minds.

Volunteering is a powerful way to build community, grow as individuals, and contribute to a cause that truly matters. By working together, we create a more supportive, resilient world.

How does volunteering help you find a sense of purpose?

Self-compassion is key to healing and personal growth. It's about showing kindness to yourself, even when you make mistakes. Perfection isn’t required for self-worth—what matters is the willingness to treat yourself with the same care and understanding you’d offer a friend.
Remember: You are worthy of love, just as you are, imperfections and all.
