The plant of the month is Violet! She’s a spring bloomer and where I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, she is carpeting the earth purple right now! 💜
The blossoms and leaves contain pain-reliving and anti-inflammatory compounds and can be used for headaches, skin irritations, respiratory illnesses, for breast health, as a gentle sleep aid and so much more.
Also called Heart’s Ease, this plant can soothe the pain of grief and heartache on an energetic level. The leaves are shaped like hearts; sometimes plants give you clues on how to work with them…
The day we heard that my kids’ father had left this world, I somehow found myself in a huge patch of rich, purple violets for hours. Alone, before I told anyone else, I was held by the earth. Intuitively drawn there I suppose, the comfort that violet imparted is still a significant memory in my being. She is like a dear friend to me now. We have so many beautiful gifts all around us to help us get through life in this crazy realm! Msg me to sign up for my plant of the month subscription to connect with one plant or tree each month and discover a whole new way to live on earth.
Heres a fun recipe for the violet simple syrup that I make every spring: 💫☀️💜
Pick a bowl full of violets. Pour almost boiling water over them and let infuse for hours or overnight. Strain.
It will be be deep blue. Add a very small amount of lemon juice and viola; its a rich violet color. Add one cup sugar to one cup violet water and bring to boil. Turn down heat and simmer for 10 minutes while stirring. Cool and bottle. It will store in fridge for weeks. Use it on pancakes, in seltzer water as an herbal soda, or in lemonade or cocktails.
