never think that our actions don’t make a difference. i wanna share a little story with y’all.

recently, someone approached me to tell me that they’d picked up free narcan at our last event, and just a few days later they were at a gas station and someone was having an overdose in the bathroom. they were able to reverse the overdose because they had narcan in their car.

it’s deeply humbling to know that the simple act of gathering with community and distributing harm reduction resources led to an attendee having the tools to save this person’s life.

you never know when you’ll be in a position to save a life with narcan.

✨ spotlight for The Steady Collective ✨

“The Steady Collective is a Harm Reduction organization and mobile syringe exchange dedicated to promoting the well-being of people who use drugs in Asheville, North Carolina through empowerment, respectful collaboration and non-judgmental support. Our primary goal is to enhance community health by reducing rates of drug overdose, injection related injury, and infectious disease through education, advocacy, and direct services. Through our mobile syringe exchange initiative, we bring these resources directly to where they are most needed.

Steady Collective was established in November 2015 by Conner Adams as a support group providing crucial support for folks who use drugs and their family and friends. Its origin was driven by a critical need for accessible harm reduction services in Western North Carolina and early efforts included the distribution of essential resources like Naloxone. On July 11th, 2016, syringe access programs gained legal recognition in North Carolina, inspiring Steady's board members and dedicated volunteers to identify suitable locations for comprehensive harm reduction services. Within a year of that first community meeting, Steady had its first syringe access outreach day in the back of Firestorm Books in West Asheville.

We believe deeply that it is essential for drug users to be the leaders of the Harm Reduction movement. People who use drugs ultimately determine the nature of the services and support offered by The Steady Collective. We work to prioritize the voices of current and former drug users in every aspect of our work with current and former drug users on our staff and board of directors. Additionally, in our paid Participant Advisory Committee meetings we facilitate discussions with current participants in our syringe exchange program to learn how we can best tailor our programs to fit the current needs of the community.

At the center of everything we do is an unwavering belief in the dignity of all drug users and their right to the resources which keep them safe.”

Overdose Awareness Day 💜💜💜

We spend today (and every day) to remember those we’ve lost from overdose. To ponder on the reason why we do what we do for those we love in remembrance and commit to do what we can for those who are still here with us.

Today, we remember those we've lost and love the people left behind, and pledge to do our part to .

Our Overdose Awareness Day ceremony kicks off today at 12 pm at Carrier Park in Asheville.

Here's the full schedule of events:

12-12:30 Welcome and moment of silence
12:30-1 Community lunch + connection
1-2p Substance use professionals panel discussion
2-2:30 Harm reduction resource demo
2:30-3 SeekHealing connection moment
3-4 Memorial: calling of names and grief ceremony
4-5 Community story telling

Those who attend are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a small memento to temporarily add to the remembrance altar, and an open heart and mind. Free food and drinks will be provided.
