With the potential for severe winter weather this weekend, many in our community have asked about generators and heaters. While we don’t have the ability to provide those resources, we do want to share safe, practical ways families can prepare if power is lost.

Tips to prepare and stay safe:

🧣 Stay Warm Safely

Dress in layers, wear hats and socks indoors
Use blankets and sleeping bags
Close off unused rooms to trap heat

❗️Do NOT use grills, camp stoves, or propane heaters indoors

🏠 Create a “Warm Room”

Gather in one room
Close doors, cover windows with towels or blankets
Lay blankets or rugs on the floor

💧 Food & Water

Fill containers or bathtubs with water (for washing/flushing)
Keep bottled water available
Have non-perishable snacks ready (granola bars, peanut butter, canned food)

🔦 Light & Communication

Fully charge phones and power banks
Use flashlights instead of candles when possible
Keep emergency numbers written down

🧊 If Power Goes Out

Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed
Eat perishable foods first
A full freezer stays cold longer

🤍 Community Care

Check on elderly neighbors or those living alone
Stay connected and help one another when it’s safe to do so

We may not have everything, but we care deeply about our community and want to help in every way we can. We will be open on Thursday at the Blessing Barn to receive essentials, Propane Vouchers and Hot food! Located at 112 Lytle Cove Rd Swannanoa NC 28778
