Has your child experienced rejection yet? 💔

😢 Heartbreak and rejection are an uncomfortable, but inevitable, part of life. Teaching kids how to handle rejection will help them be more emotionally resilient and empathetic when the time comes.

🗣️ Here are 3 things to teach your kids about how to handle rejection…
1️⃣ Respecting others’ consent and boundaries is non-negotiable—AND it’s a super important skill for kids to learn as they become more socially independent. You can say, “If someone tells you ‘no,’ respect their decision and move on.”

2️⃣ It takes a lot of bravery to put yourself out there. Remind them that everyone gets rejected sometimes, and it never feels good. Lead with empathy and let them know you’re here to help them process any difficult feelings.

3️⃣ It also takes courage to say “no.” Remind them it’s not personal when others set a boundary. They should not let any difficult feelings about the rejection turn into anger or bitterness toward the person who rejected them.

🙌🏾 Teaching these important lessons to your kids early and often can help set them up to handle rejection with grace and respect as they get older!

A recent study found that babies’ ability to match speech to faces predicted their future language abilities (Edgar, Todd, & Bahrick, 2023).

The study, which followed 103 children from age three months to 36 months, found that six month olds who were more accurate at matching a spoken language to the correct speaker spoke more at 18 and 24 months, and had larger vocabularies as late as age 3. This skill is called “intersensory processing,” or connecting different senses together.

Researchers suggested that being more advanced in this skill allows infants to focus on learning other skills sooner and learn more from social interactions, enriching their language development.

As children grow into early childhood, their world will begin to open up. They will become more independent and begin to focus more on adults and children outside of the family. They will want to explore and ask about the things around them even more. Their interactions with family and those around them will help to shape their personality and their own ways of thinking and moving. Here is a positive parenting quick tip to help you support your preschooler during this time:

HELP YOUR CHILD DEVELOP GOOD LANGUAGE SKILLS BY SPEAKING TO THEM IN COMPLETE SENTENCES AND USING “GROWN UP” WORDS. HELP THEM TO USE THE CORRECT WORDS AND PHRASES.
