do you struggle with healthy food on the go? well struggle no more! cvs has entered the snack conversation, and i’m here for it. a huge nutrition hack i’ve implemented in the ‘2 physician household, busy mom of 3 tweens and teens’ life i’m living right now is dry roasted beans!! the macros are blood sugar balancing perfection: 1 serving of chickpeas has 120 calories, 10g fiber, 5g protein and the edamame gives 140 calories, 4g fiber, 14 g protein. eat one serving of the chickpeas, and you have nearly reached the average daily fiber cosumption of an american! 🤯 it surely makes hitting fiber goals within a busy lifestyle doable. the dried fruit combines fiber and powerful micronutrients with some sweetness to satisfy sugar cravings in a healthy way. these all have extended shelf lives so you can throw, go, and not worry about freshness. you’ll find them in my work bag, car, and even suitcase when i travel! swap your chips for the crunchy beans on their own as a healthy snack, sprinkle on to-go salads to increase fiber content, the list goes on. good nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated; in fact, it shouldn’t be! small changes add up to big outcomes! 🫘🫛🍓🍎💪

Today I took a giant leap of faith and officially closed a very special chapter in my life: my 11 year practice at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center in Huntington, WV. It was much harder than I ever expected, so my emotions have been all over the place. When I recently sat down to compose my thoughts, though, a theme emerged. Beloved. Immeasurably meaningful. Pursuit that filled me with purpose. Humbled. Reverence. Privilege. Sacred gift. Eternally grateful. Deep appreciation. Fulfilled the dream. Profound gratitude.

While I’ll share more soon on the next chapter of my professional journey, I’m going to take a moment to sit in this place of profound gratitude. For the past 11 years. For what lies ahead. For the privilege of caring for my neighbors. 🫶💚

i’m NOT anti compounding pharmacy at all: in fact, i prescribe GLP receptor agonists through a FDA 503a/b pharmacy, because i strongly believe patients deserve access to these life changing medications and any doctors saying not to use these FDA approved pharmacies for a fraction of the pharmaceutical company cost are coming from a place of immense financial privilege where they often practice in affluent areas, not the rural areas of Appalachia which are burdened by tremendous obesity/related disease and also with limited financial resources. BUT, these research grade/unapproved compounding practices are SCARY!!! you have NO CLUE what you are injecting into your body! know the difference, and don’t be afraid to ask your provider whether they use an approved pharmacy or not! what questions do you have about these medications?
