ARMC Foundation

ARMC Foundation Community support has been the backbone of Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Following the Great Train Disaster of 1876, the community came together to raise funds to build a hospital in Ashtabula. Their efforts came to fruition in 1904 when the first patient was treated at what was then known as Ashtabula General Hospital. Throughout the hospital’s 119-year history, the generosity of individuals, organizations, foundations, and businesses has enabled ACMC to provide quali

ty care to the citizens of Ashtabula County. The ACMC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the hospital, was established as a separate entity in 1994. It is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization established to raise, receive and administer charitable gifts in support of Ashtabula County Medical Center. The ACMC Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community and business leaders and residents who are dedicated to ensuring the availability of high-quality healthcare in Ashtabula County. Since its inception, the ACMC Foundation has raised and directed millions of dollars to support projects and equipment for key areas of the hospital such as the outpatient cancer center, emergency department, therapy/rehabilitation, ICU, and imaging. The ACMC Foundation has also helped raise funds to support expansions, renovations and additions to the hospital, including raising funds for the new patient care tower that will open in the second quarter of 2024. More than ever, the ACMC Foundation's work is critical to the ability of ACMC to meet the changing healthcare climate. Reimbursement from insurance payors is not sufficient to support the first-class facility our community's residents need and deserve. The efforts of the ACMC Foundation, and the generosity of the entire Ashtabula County community, ensures ACMC can meet its mission of providing quality healthcare that positively impacts the health of our community.

Nature is proven to promote healing and well-being by reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and improving pain relief. ARMC's new patient care tower was built on these principles, incorporating nature and natural light into the design to improve patient experience and outcomes. Throwback Thursday!

Meet Mr. Dick Dean! Beginning in the late 1960's, Dick operated the Snack Shop at Ashtabula General Hospital (later ACMC, now ARMC) for 32 years.

He is remembered for his uncanny ability of correctly predicting his customers' purchases. Despite being blind, Dick successfully operated the AGH Snack Shop for over three decades! Dick made it a point to know each and every caregiver who entered his shop on a first name basis (not to mention their families, jobs, hobbies, etc.).

Dick was born in 1928 in Painesville, Ohio and graduated from Willoughby Union High School in 1946. He worked on the Great Lakes, the Railroad and in a greenhouse for 17 years before joining the Ashtabula General Hospital family.

Dick Dean is an important part of our hospital's history. Despite the loss of his sight at a young age, he led a life of independence and won a host of friends through his kindness, ready humor, friendliness and service to others.

Fun facts:
⭐️In 1977, Dick worked 363 days, closing only for Thanksgiving and Christmas! The Snack Shop was open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. "The average person couldn't take such long hours, but I am blessed with good health. And I thoroughly enjoy my work.", said Mr. Dean in 1978.
⭐️Dick was on record in 1978 stating his pride for being a Red Cross 10 Gallon Donor. This means he had donated blood over 80 times!
⭐️Mr. Dean was a 50-year member of the Ashtabula Lion's Club and the Ashtabula Moose Lodge.

Summer is almost here, and we are so excited to welcome a new ARMC Academy class!

ARMC Academy is a summer internship designed for high school students interested in healthcare careers. Since its inception in 2008, over 120 Ashtabula County high school students have participated in ARMC Academy. In 2025, ARMC Academy welcomes 11 students from 6 local school schools.

Katie was part of the 2015 ARMC Academy Class, she is currently an RN working as a nurse navigator for ARMC. She says, "Healthcare is such a diverse field. Getting an inside look at the health system can provide great insight for career decision making! I remember the impact that the program was still able to have for non-clinical experiences. One of my classmates no longer had an interest in a clinical role, but the hospital is more than just clinical roles."
