The Haiti-Jamaica Project, a privately sponsored and funded endeavor that aims to assist in the advancement of rural communities within these two countries. The Haiti-Jamaica Project is the long held vision of Joseph Elie Jean-Phillippe and Marcia Loraine Lewis, native from Haiti and Jamaica respectively. This project was not projected to ensue until 2020, however, with yet another natural disaster the likes of Hurricane Matthew, the couple decided to accelerate their plans to implement certain aspects of the project NOW! To make it happen they both pledge $50,000 from the profits of their personal businesses and incomes to go towards the organization in support of local Haitian and Jamaican communities. However, at this current time the focus will mostly be concentrated in Haiti, particularly the South of Haiti's Department of Grand'Anse; in the major town of Jeremie and surrounding township (where hurricane Matthew hit the hardest). The Haiti-Jamaica Project will be introducing local sustainable community projects and initiatives addressing four main pillars:
Economic Development
Social Development
Cultural Development
Spiritual Development
Since plans have shifted to move things along quickly, Joseph Elie and Marcia have decided to immediately focus on five projects called the Fundamental Focus Five Initiative: They are as follows:
The Fundamental Focus Five Initiative projects are:
1. Privately funded Micro loans - To foster and facilitate community-based economic development. Aim to prevent major devastation on communities not financially prepared for a natural disaster like hurricane Matthew.
2. Rural Farmers Cooperative - To address the current major food insecurity in urban areas (and now in the coastal town of Jeremie and surrounding rural townships), where much of its crops were destroyed by hurricane Matthew.
3. Community-Based Health Clinic and a rural Birthing Center - Clinics will eliminate the need for lengthy travelling to major health facilities for basic health care and birthing needs.
4. Construction Company - Inexpensive housing solutions and construction alternatives with locally sourced materials and workforce. Also addressing post hurricane housing crisis.
5. Trade School - For the construction of a school that will be the training ground for skilled tradespeople needed in the local community. NOTE: To be initiated between January 2017 to January of 2018. Want to help? Please visit
