Has your provider told you that you that you are at risk for diabetes or diagnosed you with prediabetes?

Starr Regional Medical Center and the McMinn County UT Extension Office are offering the free National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) to help community members prevent type 2 diabetes together. The program includes 16 weekly sessions and six monthly sessions, which will take place at the McMinn Higher Education Center’s Conference Room, located at 2345 Denso Drive, Athens, beginning Friday, February 6, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Participants learn how to eat healthy, add physical activity to their routine, manage stress, stay motivated and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes. If you are interested in enrolling or learning more about the program, call Jackie Berry, MS, RD, LDN, Director of Community Wellness at Starr Regional Medical Center, at 423.744.3249.

Born January 3, Taeva Montanna weighed 6 lbs, 11 oz and measured 19 inches. Congratulations to parents Michelle Ward and Eric Wilson!

To celebrate being the first baby born at Starr Regional Medical Center in 2026, she received several gifts, including a handmade quilt created by the Heritage Quilt Guild; gift cards from Athens Pediatrics, PLLC and Covenant Pediatrics; a gift from the McMinn County Education Foundation; and a gift basket of infant care items from Starr Regional Medical Center.

New Practice Names Coming January 1, 2026

Starr Regional Medical Center is excited to share an important update about our medical group practices. Beginning January 1, 2026, all hospital-employed practices will feature new names that clearly reflect their connection to Starr Regional Medical Center and the services they provide.

All employed practices are part of Starr Regional Medical Group. To make this affiliation clearer for our patients and community, practices with names that don’t currently show this connection—such as Athens Family Practice and Medical Associates of Athens—will be adopting updated names.

Additionally, Starr Cardiology Associates will transition to Starr Heart & Vascular Clinic to better represent the full range of cardiology and vascular services offered.

Below are the names and locations of all Starr Regional Medical Group practices, those with name changes are specified:
• Athens Family Practice is now Starr Family Practice
