Please join us for our next MRC meeting on Tuesday, November 19, at 5:30 PM at the UGA Tate Student Center, Room 144 (45 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30602). We are honored to host Debbie Watson, Executive Director, and Kara Johnson from Nuçi’s Space.

Nuçi’s Space is dedicated to ending the epidemic of su***de and inspiring a culture free of stigma around mental and brain illnesses. Ms. Watson and Ms. Johnson will share insights into their organization’s mission to support those living with brain illnesses, particularly musicians, and how they strive to break down obstacles to care. They will also provide resources available to our community for su***de prevention and mental health support.

We look forward to seeing you there for this important discussion!

Hello everyone!
We’re excited to announce that our next meeting on September 10, 2024, will focus on “Stop the Bleed” training. This important session will cover essential bleeding control techniques and the proper use of a tourniquet. Gaining these skills and certification could make a significant difference in critical situations.

Hi all! Thank you to those who showed up last night at the engagement fair and all of those we met! As mentioned last night…

We would like to invite you to the first UGA Medical Reserve Corps (UGA MRC) meeting for the 2024-2025 year.

We will be hosting Bill and Lois Hall and their K9, Calder. The Halls worked with Therapy Dogs for over 40 years and Search, Rescue & Recovery K9s for 20 years. They belonged to a volunteer K9 SAR Team and were Reserve Deputies for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. They served as Technical Specialists with Clinton County Emergency Management including being CERT & Active Shooter trainers as well as handlers with the Crisis Response Therapy Dog group. They were also active with the Clinton County Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy.

We have a special opportunity for our UGA MRC February meeting.  We will be taking a tour of the Athens-Clarke County E-911 Center.  Space is limited so sign up below if you are interested in attending!

Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Central Communications uses an Enhanced Telephone Number System (9-1-1) so citizens can easily access emergency services.  ACC Central Communications receives and dispatches citizens’ requests for emergency services not only to ACC Police Department, but to ACC Fire, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Winterville’s Police Department and Fire Department, and to UGA Police Dispatch.

Note the special time of this meeting:  Tuesday, February 28 at 4:00 pm. 
The tour should take about an hour.  The tour will take place at the ACC Police Department (3035 Lexington Road, Athens, Georgia 30605). 

We are unable to offer a Zoom option this month. 

Remember that all of the hours you dedicate to UGA MRC go toward the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. You will receive 2 volunteer incentive hours for the 2023 Volunteer Incentive Program when you attend this meeting!
