🧠 Calling our dyspraxia community (diagnosed or self-identifying)

At Bounce Black, we care deeply about creating spaces where neurodivergent experiences are understood, affirmed, and supported.

A research team at Newcastle University is currently running a survey to better understand the experiences of millennials and Gen Z with dyspraxia (also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder). Research like this is important—it helps improve awareness, support systems, and the way services are designed for neurodivergent communities.

If you:

👉🏾have dyspraxia

👉🏾think you might have dyspraxia

👉🏾or have ever related to dyspraxic traits

we’d love for you to consider taking part.

Your voice matters. Your experiences matter. And contributing to research like this can help shape better futures for others navigating similar journeys.

From April 14th - 17th, the 5th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent is focused on one key question: “How do we expand the human rights of people of African descent in practice?”

Because despite decades of commitments, systemic racism and structural inequality persist across education, employment, health, and beyond.

This year’s theme “Expanding the human rights of people of African descent under the Second International Decade for People of African Descent” deeply resonates with the realities we see in our work every day at Bounce Black.

We’re not just observing these conversations, we are actively working within them, supporting Black students and professionals to:
- Navigate systems
- Heal from trauma
- Access opportunities
- And build lives where they can truly thrive

Because global frameworks matter, yes, but lived experience matters just as much. And real change happens when the two meet.

Follow along as we break this down over the coming days.

Organised harassment is often dismissed as interpersonal conflict or isolated incidents—but when it is coordinated, sustained, and harmful, it can amount to something far more serious:

A violation of civil and human rights under international law.

The Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment makes clear that harm is not limited to the physical.

In Article 1, torture is defined as:

“any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person… for such purposes as… punishing them… or intimidating or coercing them… when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official…”

This matters. Because it recognises:

• Psychological harm is real harm

• Patterns of intimidation and coercion are not incidental

• State involvement—or failure to act—carries responsibility

Where organised harassment is prolonged, targeted, and causes significant mental suffering—particularly where institutions are involved or complicit—it may fall within these international standards.

This isn’t about overstating harm. It’s about naming it accurately.

Understanding these frameworks helps to clarify:

👉🏾 what rights are being violated

👉🏾 what protections exist

👉🏾 and where accountability can be pursued

No one should have to endure sustained harm—visible or invisible—without recognition.

🔁 Save and share. Awareness is part of accountability.

If you’re experiencing or trying to report unlawful surveillance or organised harassment, knowing who to contact can be one of the biggest challenges.

There isn’t just one route—there are multiple layers of accountability, including:

• Country-specific bodies (police oversight, privacy regulators, human rights commissions)

• Independent watchdogs and ombuds institutions

• International mechanisms (e.g. UN bodies and regional human rights courts)

This post brings together both national and international pathways—because sometimes local systems are enough, and sometimes escalation is necessary.

🧭 You might consider different routes depending on:

• The nature and severity of what’s happening

• Whether state actors are involved

• Whether local remedies are effective or accessible

⚖️ Important to remember:

• You are not limited to one reporting channel

• Different bodies handle different aspects of harm

• International mechanisms exist for a reason, especially where accountability is limited

📂 If you’re taking steps:

Document everything. Preserve evidence. Track patterns over time.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need an understanding of the landscape of your options.

🔁 Save this for reference & share with someone who may need it

Mental health challenges are rising. ADHD & autism diagnoses are increasing. Systems are under pressure.

And Black students and professionals are navigating all of this on top of racial stress, bias, and systemic barriers.

This new UK report highlights a broken system — one that:

Responds too late

Relies too heavily on diagnosis

Doesn’t always reach those who need it most

At Bounce Black, we believe:

🖤 Support shouldn’t start at crisis

🖤 Healing shouldn’t require a label

🖤 Thriving should be accessible to us all

Knowing where to report unlawful surveillance and organised harassment can feel overwhelming—especially when the systems themselves feel complex, unclear, or difficult to navigate.

But there are established channels designed to receive and investigate concerns, including:

• Police oversight bodies

• Privacy and data protection regulators

• Human rights commissions

• Ombuds offices and anti-corruption agencies

This carousel offers general guidance on where to start, so you’re not left trying to figure it out alone.

🧭 A few important reminders:

• Different bodies handle different types of complaints

• You may need to report to more than one organisation

• Processes can take time, but documentation matters

📂 If you’re considering reporting:

Keep records. Track patterns. Save evidence.

Understanding your options doesn’t guarantee outcomes, but it strengthens your position and helps you move with clarity.

“Too poor to be sick.”

That’s the reality for too many Black professionals.

A new report shows that we are more likely to:

• Work in high-stress, low-paid jobs

• Have less access to sick pay and workplace support

• Feel unable to speak up when we’re struggling

• Keep working while unwell just to survive

Let’s be clear:

This is not a personal failure. This is a structural setup.

What gets called “strength” or “resilience” is often just people pushing through systems that don’t support their wellbeing. And over time, that takes a toll.

On our bodies.

On our mental health.

On our ability to rest and recover.

On our ability to thrive.

At Bounce Black, we believe:

✨ You deserve to be well AND supported

✨ You shouldn’t have to choose between your health and your income

✨ Your experiences are valid and they matter

We’re committed to creating spaces, resources, and conversations that help you not just survive work, but thrive in it.

Save this if it resonates. Share it with someone who needs to hear it. 🖤

You can feel like you belong… and still feel like a fraud.

That’s what this research on Black students and impostor feelings reveals.

We often assume impostor syndrome is about being “the only one in the room.”

But this study found something deeper:

🤔 Black students experience impostor feelings regardless of institution

😞 These feelings are linked to worse mental health

And surprisingly…

😮 Feeling culturally aligned with your university can make the impact worse, not better

Because when you expect to belong, impostor feelings can hit even harder.

This shifts the conversation from confidence to context, culture and environment.

At Bounce Black, we believe thriving is not a responsibility we shoulder alone. It’s shaped by the spaces we’re in, the stories we carry, and the support we receive.

If you’ve ever felt like a fraud in a space you worked hard to enter…

You’re not alone. And you’re not the problem either!
