This tiny little thing was quite content on her tummy since she had Daddy by her side. Get down on the floor with baby for a little bonding, and tummy time will be fun! Some babies are born with tightness or asymmetries in their bodies that can make this position challenging. If your baby isn't a fan of being flat on the floor, try leaning back and doing tummy time on your chest for a heart to heart.

Bring a blanket and get down on the floor with baby to play in a relaxed environment. You will learn a variety of play positions, how to move in and out of those positions and when to add more of a challenge as baby’s skills progress. You’ve heard about tummy time, but what about side-lying? It’s a great position for baby to learn where the middle is, especially if they are starting to prefer to look one way more than the other. It’s an easier way for baby to bring hands together and to their mouth without having to fight gravity. You can start this right away with baby, just like tummy time. Slowly roll in and out of side-lying and be sure to play on BOTH sides!

This little guy learned how he could grab a toy much easier on his side and get it to his mouth. He is just the cutest 🥰

I give suggestions of what features may make a seat safer, easier to use, easier to install or longer lasting for your child.

I discuss how to decide between a rear facing only/ infant carrier style seat or starting with a convertible seat from day one. Every family has different needs and priorities!

According to a 2015 study of infants being discharged home from a large hospital; nearly all parents made at least one error or misuse of their child’s car seat; 91% were considered serious misuse, and 89% had critical misuses. The study showed that when a family had worked with a child passenger safety technician prior to delivery they were significantly less likely to make errors in positioning or installing their child’s car seat.

As a Child Passenger Safety Technician who has helped countless families over the past 20 years, I know it is easy to get it wrong, but how important it is to get it right.
