We’ve been a little M.I.A. the past few months making some HUGE changes at the farm. We are still working on horses during this crazy time as well. We wanted to share our latest rehab horse which happens to be a personal horse of ours. Brief back story, November of last year she was diagnosed with sesamoiditis and a suspensory injury. Obvious lameness and swelling occurred. Treatment was shockwave every 3 weeks and PEMF treatments in between. Mid February we were given the okay to go ahead and try to begin riding rehabilitation. The process was very slow and not unproblematic in the beginning. We battled a good bit of scar tissue which had to be broken up but also next day swelling and more lameness. After a few weeks of a very strict riding regimen we began to see relaxation in the gaits, her trusting herself, and considerably less swelling the next day. We then began daily hill work to continue strengthening and regaining flexibility in the leg. We were able to start incorporating circles at this point instead of our strict strait lines in the arena. After a few weeks, 3 rides per week for at least an hour, her stride began to open up, and even more relaxation came along. We then went back to the arena to start our “normal” riding. Making sure the leg was strong enough to withstand the deeper sand in more than just straight lines, we were able to begin her full body conditioning to start getting ready to attempt to jump again. The end of April brought along our first jumping session small cross rails and then gradually moving up to about 2’3’’. Fast forward to last week when she had her first full course schooling lesson and our girl was stronger and moving better than she was before. A lot of time, patience, blood, sweat, and tears but we believe in what we do and our girl is proof of that. We are so thankful to our clients and thank you for believing in us and trusting us for your equine family members. Enjoy this quick clip of Speck returning to work. They don’t call her the comeback kid for nothing 😎
