If your tween suddenly starts saying they’re full after just a few bites, pause before jumping to conclusions.
Bodies change fast at this age. So do feelings.
Sometimes “I’m full” means:
•I’m overstimulated
•I feel rushed or watched
•I’m unsure if it’s okay to eat more
•I’m tired, anxious, or trying to control something
Instead of “You barely ate anything,” try:
“Totally okay. Do you feel full in your body or just not hungry right now?”
“Was anything feeling ‘off’ at the table today?”
“Want to save it for later?”
And if it keeps happening, gently check in outside of mealtimes:
“Do you feel like your body is getting what it needs lately?”
“Sometimes when kids grow, they don’t even realize they’re hungrier. Want help tuning in?”
What does your tween need from you during mealtime?
