As a childbirth educator, students often want their number one burning question answered: How do we know when it's time to go to the hospital? Here's the BEST way to answer this: ๐Ÿ’ก

๐ŸŒŠSurges are long, strong, and close together, whereas...
โณ Long = Each surge lasts longer than 45:, probably a minute long each.
๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ Strong = You can no longer talk through them. They require alll of your focus.
๐Ÿ•’ Close together = Starting every 4 minutes (or more frequently). (This expectation might need to be adjusted, but this is a general rule of thumb.)
๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ›๏ธ And... This pattern is consistent while you are lying down AND while you are standing/walking/moving around.

Part 3: The surges rolled in fast and hard and I felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin. This sensation was so much different than what I experienced with my sonโ€™s birth.

The midwife intermittently checked on the baby, and her heart tones sounded strong.

My husband set up the birth tub and I was so eager for relief that I got in as it was filling.

The water felt AMAZING and allowed me to move more freely. The next thing I knew, I felt the urge to PUSH. I didnโ€™t believe it was real because I had only been truly laboring for an hour and a half.

My team affirmed that the sensation I felt was absolutely real and encouraged me to lean into it.

Pushing gave me such a relief from the intensity I was feeling and within the next few pushes, I roared like a Lion and the baby was out.

5am - 7:10am.

I hypnobirthed/slept through the bulk of my labor, woke up in transition and had a rapid birth!

It was empowering, bewildering, overstimulating, joyful, and so much more!

Part 2:

As the evening progressed, I started feeling low cramps but didnโ€™t want to alarm anyone, so I put myself to bed and decided to listen to my HelloBirth hypno tracks.

The cramps gradually increased to tiny surges, but it wasnโ€™t enough to disturb my sleep much.

I told myself that Iโ€™d wake everyone at dawn if the surges got more intense. So I rested, kept listening to HelloBirth and added in my favorite Dhikr audio to keep me mellow.

Suddenly at 5am I felt a huge surge and a gush (not amniotic fluid but other birthy substances). This surge was super intense and my husband heard me call out. He woke and came to support me. I then sent him to wake my doula and call my midwife.
