As the weather forecast gets more intense, many little ears and hearts are paying close attention even when it seems like they aren’t. Children feel our energy long before they understand our words. If we stay calm, they stay calm. If we speak about the storm with mindfulness instead of panic, we help them feel safe and steady.
This afternoon in our Winter Yoga session, my youngest yogis made the sweetest birdfeeders. We talked about what winter feels like when everything is covered in snow, and how we can help the birds by putting out a little food for them. It was such a simple, joyful way to shift the focus from fear to kindness and connection.
As you prepare for the storm, take a breath, stay grounded, and let your children feel your calm.
And when the snow comes, maybe put out a little treat for the birds, a small act of care that reminds all of us how connected we are.
