Love this article. Great conversation starter! The author, Clay Cranford invited me to be a guest on this parent workshop on September 17th to unpack this and other "edgy" internet safety topics.

Why Clay's post resonated with me:

Clay’s experience as an SRO and juvenile investigator gives him front‑row insight into how early exposure to p**n fuels isolation in our kids. His breakdown of the neurological hook and social impact is spot‑on...but we can't stop there:

Here is what this article inspired in me, as a dad, internet safety advocate, and digital addiction recovery coach:

1. Start digital‑wellness education by age 7, not 12—kids that young deserve guidance on online consent, body privacy, and healthy curiosity.

2. Pair tech boundaries with positive sexual‑health talks so children learn about respect and real intimacy, not just “no screens.”

3. P**n hooks the brain, but so does binging Fortnite or TikTok—address possible root causes: loneliness, anxiety, or boredom, lack of social skills, etc. Digital addiction is not one vice fits all.

Want to dive deeper? We’ll unpack these ideas, bring in tools from my R.A.D.D. program and Clay's new book and give you a step‑by‑step blueprint to protect and truly connect with your children—well before the “awkward puberty talks” hit.

Bottom line:

Let’s shift from the “just block it” mantra to teaching our kids how to thrive in the digital world. Who’s in? 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦

As a father of two boys and a 20-year law enforcement veteran who has worked as a School Resource Officer and juvenile investigator, I’ve witnessed firsthand a troubling trend. More and more young men are retreating into the digital world – specifically into online p**nography – and coming out...

Social media addiction doesn’t always start with mindless scrolling.
Sometimes it starts with a need to be seen.

✨ To be liked.

But validation shouldn’t come from strangers with thumbs. Reclaim self-worth from the scroll trap.

Divorce Professionals: Why Tech Habits May Be Undermining Your Client’s Custody Case

In today’s custody evaluations, it’s not just about finances or living arrangements—it’s also about screen time, browsing history, secret accounts, Snapchat, and lack of emotional presence.

As a digital addiction recovery coach, I work with men and families struggling with compulsive tech use—p**nography, gaming, gambling, social media, and screen addiction. And here’s the truth: these habits are often the invisible saboteurs in divorce and custody negotiations.

These aren't just “bad habits.” They're legal liabilities, and they show up in court as:

Unreliable parenting

Emotional unavailability

Poor judgment

Safety concerns for children

But here’s the opportunity: digital behaviors can change.

I offer a structured, private recovery program with a 100% success rate for clients who complete 12 sessions. It’s not therapy, it’s coaching—and it works.

When a client wants to show the court they’re serious about change, my role is to:

âś… Document their behavioral improvements
âś… Implement digital safeguards and monitoring tools
âś… Coach them to become more grounded, present parents

I don’t replace the therapist, 12steps, or attorney—I support their work.

Digital Addiction Coach is a ground-breaking recovery service founded by John Winstanley, a nationally recognized coach, speaker, and internet safety advocate for families.

John’s mission is personal. After a decade struggling with his own digital addiction, the devastating loss of his 7-year-old daughter Laura in 2012, and his 9-year-old son Kyle being exposed to disturbing online content on another child’s phone, John transformed his grief and anger into purpose.

He founded multiple organizations to help families heal, including FortSafety, a nonprofit focused on protecting kids and strengthening families from online dangers. Today, having stepped back from the day-to-day operations of FortSafety, John is fully focused on healing individuals and families trapped in digital addiction.

Through Digital Addiction Coach, he offers two signature programs:

R.A.D.D. (Recovery from Addiction to Digital Devices) for those in active addiction

T.H.R.I.V.E. for long-term recovery and personal growth

Both programs combine evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, and mindfulness with real-life accountability and emotional support. With a 100% success rate, John helps clients overcome compulsive behaviors tied to screens, p**nography, social media, and gaming.

But Digital Addiction Coach isn’t just about quitting devices. It’s about reclaiming independence, rebuilding relationships, and learning to live fully again—without shame, secrecy, or screens running the show.
