Odyssey Family Counseling Center hosted our third Youth Mental Health First Aid training for Atlanta Public Schools staff. This month, staff members from STEAM Academy at Carver attended a full-day workshop to become Youth Mental Health First Aiders on Saturday, April 29th. These staff members engaged in learning and practice opportunities to support youth in their communities. We are truly honored for school staff members to utilize their Saturday to build their knowledge and skill set!

Odyssey Family Counseling Center offers this training for staff connected to our THRIVE University program, a violence-prevention curriculum, and support for youth in metro-Atlanta schools. Thank you to our excellent partner, Atlanta Public Schools for supporting this effort and encouraging staff participation!

Odyssey Family Counseling Center is the Onsite Mental Health Partner of Woodland Middle School in Fulton County. Woodland Middle School held a Wellness Carnival on April 20th for their students ahead of the end-of-the-year testing. Ellyce Payne, Child and Adolescent Services Coordinator, hosted the "Fun & Games" section of the carnival with Giant Jenga, Twister, Giant Connect 4, and Co****le. Odyssey Family Counseling Center provided prizes, affirmations, and encouragement for the students to utilize in the coming testing. The students enjoyed all the activities and Ellyce spent time with the students practicing stress-reduction practices with fun activities to increase student engagement with peers. Students also had the opportunity to learn healthy eating practices, mindfulness practices, and emotion regulation skills. Students enjoyed the carnival and engaged well with one another throughout the event. Odyssey enjoys supporting the community and ensuring youth are prepared for testing and end-of-the-year expectations.

Odyssey Family Counseling Center’s THRIVE Thursday! Our Teaching Holistic Responses & Information for Violence Elimination (THRIVE) program is committed to encouraging students to "THRIVE" for violence prevention in schools and their surrounding communities throughout the City of Atlanta.

One campus implementing the program is Tri-Cities High School in East Point, GA. Students worked this week on modules that focus managing feelings and emotions. Here they are working as groups to identify what leads to an emotional crisis. The groups also discussed ways to bring themselves back to "center."
