Social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia.

Characteristics of social anxiety in people :
These are people who are afraid or scared of being in the midst of people or a gathering. Most people don't know they have social anxiety disorder. To know if you have it, you'd notice most or all of these, when in a gathering :sweaty palm, high heart beat rate, your body stiffens when you are around other people, often overly self conscious. You find it difficult to interact or relate with others in a gathering. Person(s) with social anxiety find it difficult to interact with others, they tend to panic and feel tongue tied when in a gathering.
In most cases, it could be as a result of fear of being neglected, unaccepted and judged by others. Social anxiety is treatable, it could be treated with antidepressant and therapy.

We often don't know how severe it is, until you find yourself in a social gathering or in the midst of people. How much do you avoid, going out with friends or being in a social gathering.

We at Georgia Healthy Minds are here to take care of you, Contact us today, book an appointment with our well qualified personnel's today.

“Why are more young people suffering from anxiety disorder?”

We got asked this question by one of our young client and we broke down the answer into 5 numbers:

1. Pressure to Succeed: High expectations in academics, career, and social spheres amplify anxiety in young people.

2. Social Media Impact: Constant comparison, cyberbullying, and fear of missing out contribute to anxiety in young people as they cannot leave social media even though it’s not good for their mental health.

3. Financial Insecurity: Economic instability and the fact that young people are barely surviving increases stress and anxiety.

4. Uncertain Future: Job market volatility and global uncertainties fuel anxiety about the future for young people.

5. Lack of Coping Skills: Insufficient emotional regulation tools and support systems exacerbate anxiety levels in young people.

Knowing this is one thing, seeking solution is another thing. Reach out to us by sending a DM or booking a consultation through our website.

Have you ever wondered how to differentiate between what seems like symptoms of OCD and having a knack for being in a clean environment at all time?

Well, here are some points to explain how OCD differs from cleanliness:

1. OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors.

2. Cleanliness, on the other hand, is a personal preference for neatness and order.

3. While OCD can involve cleanliness rituals, it extends beyond to unwanted thoughts and rituals that significantly impact daily life and well-being.

Often times, people lay claims to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) thinking that claiming to have the illness makes you seem “cool” but OCD is anything but cool.

Here are 7 ways OCD affects you:

Sure, here are 7 reasons why OCD is not a "cool" disorder:

1. OCD can cause significant distress and suffering, often disrupting daily life and relationships.

2. The constant anxiety and fear associated with OCD can be overwhelming and exhausting.

3. Rituals and compulsions can consume significant amounts of time, interfering with work, school, and social activities.

4. OCD can lead to depression, low self-esteem, and other mental health issues.

5. There's often misunderstanding and stigma surrounding OCD, making it difficult for those affected to seek help or understanding.

6. The repetitive behaviors and intrusive thoughts can be disruptive and challenging to manage.

7. OCD can significantly impact an individual's quality of life, making it far from a "cool" or desirable condition.

What differentiates physical trauma from emotional trauma?

Physical trauma refers to bodily harm or injury, while emotional trauma involves psychological distress from distressing events. Physical trauma is often visible, while emotional trauma is internal and can manifest as anxiety, depression, or PTSD. Both require appropriate care, but emotional trauma may necessitate therapy and emotional support for recovery.
