My name is Essence Washington, and I am a maternal mental health therapist and labor and postpartum doula, dedicated to helping women heal, grow, and thrive in and through motherhood. The skills or routine may be the same but HOW and WHEN we use them determines the outcome.

If you establish a self care routine that you implement in your daily life, you are most likely managing your mental health.
However, if you only utilize these skills when your mental health is suffering, you are working to get your mental health back to a stable place.

It is good to have both a self care routine and a set of coping skills. It is most important that we know WHEN and HOW we use them.

I’ve been a yoga girlie for about 8 years now. I started practicing after I had my first daughter and fell in love with craft.

One goal I always had was to be able to do a headstand. While I was able to achieve this just simply as a pose, I wanted to be able to do more. Investing in my FeetUp has taken my inversion to the next level.

Not only am I able to hold poses but I get an amazing ab workout while pushing myself to do more. I soon learned that inversion practices has many benefits for both our physical and mental health.

Our childhood is the foundation for who we are to become in adulthood.

Many of us have experiences that significantly impact us BUT we have the choice to allow it to dictate our actions and decisions.

Becoming a mother can trigger us or make us reflect on some of our childhood experiences. When we don’t deal with those feelings, it can fester and become a driving force for how we parent.

Make the choice to heal from your childhood, so it does not define and dictate our motherhood.

Don’t balance to be even but to maintain stability.
As women and mothers, we are often juggling multiple roles and responsibilities. How much time and energy we put into each thing, should be a reflection of what we have identified as our individual need.

Consider these questions:
❓What do I need to feel stable?
❓How much of each energy or time do I need in this area of my life to make me feel stable?

Remember balance is not perfection because our imperfections make us who we are!
