Why Neighbors Trust Nurses They Know

Trust isn’t built in a waiting room.
It’s built in conversations, consistency, and care. 😊

The Movement

This isn’t just a neighborhood clinic model.
It’s a movement to restore trust, access, and humanity in healthcare.
And nurses are leading the way.
It's a new model for nursing, in teams , in YOUR Neighborhood.

The Oregon Nurses Association is outraged, heartbroken, and profoundly disturbed by the fatal shooting of 37-year-old registered nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026. Alex was an intensive care unit nurse and union member at the VA hospital who dedicated his life to caring for military veterans and their families. A life devoted to healing was cut short — gunned down in the streets by federal agents while speaking out.

Our deepest condolences go out to Alex’s family, his patients, his colleagues, and the people of Minneapolis as they grieve this senseless and devastating loss.

A nurse's job is to care for their patients — but they are also ethically bound to speak out in the face of injustice and human rights violations. Provision 8.2 of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses is clear: “Where there are human rights violations, nurses ought to and must stand up for those rights and demand accountability.” That is exactly what Alex was doing.

So sad!

💔 Today, January 24th, the nursing community is shaken by the death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit (ICU) nurse at a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital. Pretti was shot and killed by U.S. Border Patrol agents working as part of an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis.

Week #2

Week #2

We’re now in the second week of the nurses’ strike in New York City with more than 15,000 nurses continuing to protest unsafe conditions across NYC health systems.

Nurses are demanding what patients need, too:
• Safe staffing levels
• Fair healthcare benefits
• Protection from workplace violence

This strike isn’t just about labor, it’s about patient safety.

When nurses are stretched too thin, patients wait longer, care is delayed, and outcomes suffer. When healthcare workers aren’t protected, burnout rises and entire systems become unstable. And for the people inside these hospitals right now, it means fewer caregivers at the bedside and a system under strain.

Nurses are often the first line of care, the ones catching changes, advocating for patients, and holding systems together. What’s happening in NYC is a reminder that supporting nurses is supporting healthcare itself.

Safe working conditions for nurses mean safer care for everyone.

Day 5!

So true!

So true!

Independent practice is defined by scope of practice, not by:
• Place of employment
• Employee–employer relationships
• Physician signatures or collaborative agreements
• Method of reimbursement

Independent does NOT mean practicing alone.
Prudent clinicians seek support when patient care requires it.
Collaboration = health professionals jointly managing care
• Shared authority
• Mutual respect & trust
• Open communication
• Commitment to quality care
• Practice within individual scopes

ACNM, along with other professional organizations, such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, affirm that health care provision is optimized when licensed, independent providers collaborate to provide quality, team-based care.
