It’s important that our self-care practices allow space for ALL of who we are to be present.⁣⁣

Let's hit the wall and and do a few heart openers! ⁣

I love using the wall as a prop because there's always one nearby, and it's very easy to adjust the depth and/or intensity of a posture in smaller increments. ⁣

Be sure to check back for part 2, and continue to ! 💜💙🙏🏾🙌🏾

A couple of weeks ago I got a request to break down bujapidasana (shoulder pressing pose), so here it is as promised!

This pose really helps me access the internal fire associated with samana vayu, or energy drawing in toward the solar plexus. Think about this energetic movement as you draw the belly button in and squeeze the legs into the arms.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

"Can I be happy for another's success, even if it could have been me?"

This quote from Nicolai Bachman's commentary on the Yoga Sutras has a home on a hastily scrawled post-it that now lives on my full-length mirror. It feels like a fitting location, as I often battle the urge to define the way I see myself through the lens of what may or may not be happening for other people. And it manifests itself in countless destructive ways.

I'm starting to see that while the initial appearance of these thoughts may not go away for a while, I don't have to engage with them and take a trip down a rabbit hole that will never make me feel good about myself.

So much of the practice for me is about cultivating choice when triggering subjects arise. The knee-jerk reactions are easy to go with because they paint with broad strokes and often involve very little nuance. They can't take into account what's happening in the present moment.

I could go on about this for quite a while, but I say all this because this is a part of me that I still have issues acknowledging. It flies under the radar and sabotages situations, often without me realizing until it's too late.

If anyone else is dealing with issues around jealousy and comparison, know that I feel you. Know that I see you. We got this.

I received this mat from .bare a few weeks ago, and I’ve really enjoyed my time practicing on it. There’s lots of little eye-catching design details, not to mention the grip is great and it has a good amount of cushion for those of us in the creaky old knees club (🙋🏾‍♂️). If you’re in the market to invest in a new mat (they’re not cheap), I think they’re worth a look!
