Grief doesn’t follow a straight line.
It’s more like a group chat you didn’t ask to be added to… and everyone talks at once, and sometimes you wish they would stop, and sometimes you wish they wouldn’t stop.

The grief cycle often includes stages like denial, anger, bargaining, sadness, and acceptance—but here’s the thing: You don’t go through them in order. You don’t experience them the same way every time. And you might revisit some stages more than once

That’s normal. You’re not “doing grief wrong.”

We also want to name something important:
You can grieve things that are gone and things that are still here.
• Relationships that changed
• Versions of yourself you’ve outgrown
• Dreams that look different now
• Loved ones who are physically present but emotionally distant

Grief isn’t just about death it’s about loss. And loss shows up in many forms.

Processing grief doesn’t mean rushing to “feel better.”
It means:
🤍 Allowing emotions to come and go
🤍 Letting yourself feel angry, sad, numb, relieved, or all of the above
🤍 Using coping skills like grounding, journaling, movement, talking it out, or resting (yes, rest counts!)

And sometimes the bravest thing you can do is say:
“This hurts… and I’m allowed to feel that.”

Be gentle with yourself. You’re human, not a robot with an off switch for emotions. Sometimes we can focus just on what feels tolerable, and doable.

If you’re navigating grief and want support, we’re here.

Big Growth at Restoring Connections Therapy!

We’re excited to share that our practice is expanding! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding 3 new offices so we can welcome more clients and continue providing the care and privacy you deserve. (Don’t worry we will be changing the wall color too 🤭) Be on the lookout for more pics of the new space as we add our own speciality touches to each office!

That said, we want to thank you for your patience as construction is underway. We apologize for any temporary noise or inconvenience, and we truly appreciate your understanding while we build something better for our clients. 🔨🔧 👷🏻‍♀️

This expansion means:
• Space for additional clinicians
• A more comfortable, calm environment for healing
• Additional services for healing in the future

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, or know someone who’s been waiting for an opening, this growth allows us to continue to help people, more deeply 🤍

Two of our clinicians at Restoring Connections Therapy, just came back from Atlanta, GA where they were trained in Phase 2 or Brainspotting by the wonderful We want to share a little more with you what we learned and how it may help our clients!

What is Brainspotting?
Have you ever noticed that when you think about something hard or emotional, your eyes naturally look in a certain direction? 👀

Well that’s no accident — it’s actually your brain’s way of accessing stored experiences.

Brainspotting is a powerful therapy technique that helps you process and release what’s been “stuck” in your body and mind whether that’s anxiety, trauma, stress, or emotional blocks.

Let’s explain how it works:
We identify a “brainspot” — an eye position connected to where your body holds an emotion or memory.
While focusing on that spot, your brain begins to naturally process and heal what’s underneath — without you needing to “think your way through it.”
Many people describe it as feeling a deep emotional release, inner calm afterward, or possibly feeling “lighter” about the situation.

It’s not about reliving painful memories it’s about allowing your brain and body to finally let go of what’s been holding on.

We are passionate about helping individuals heal, and this is just one way we feel can help clients get there. Follow the link in the bio to schedule an appt with one of our clinicians!

For our final therapist spotlight we have Shauna Berglund, LCSW. But let’s first say Happy Boss’s Day to the boss lady herself! She opened Restoring Connections, October 2023, and has been rocking it ever since. We sure are lucky to have her.

Shauna understands that being human can be messy. We all get stuck in patterns, carry old hurts, and sometimes feel like we’re just spinning our wheels trying to “get it together.” The truth? You don’t need to be fixed, you need space to reconnect with yourself, your mind and body.

Shauna uses a variety of therapeutic techniques such as Brainspotting, CBT, Somatic Therapy, Trauma processing, and The Gottman Method. With all these different modalities she is able to treat a variety of clients including children as young as 8, teens, adults, and couples.

Shauna’s approach is client-centered, collaborative, and real, she will laugh with you when it’s right, sit with you while you cry when it’s needed, and gently dig into what’s underneath the surface so healing can happen.

She works with clients to, help them move from overwhelm and disconnection toward clarity, balance, and deeper relationships both with others and with themselves.

If you’re ready to stop just surviving and start feeling like you again, she would love to walk alongside you.

Our second therapist spot light is Danielle Nunley, LCSW. She is a therapist dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with compassion, authenticity, and a touch of humor. She specializes in working with anxiety, depression, major life transitions, pregnancy, and postpartum experiences. Whether you’re adjusting to a new phase of life or feeling overwhelmed by emotions that seem too heavy to carry alone, she is here to walk alongside you as you find your way toward healing and balance.

Danielle’s approach is relational and client-centered—grounded in genuine connection and curiosity about your unique story. She believes that real healing happens when you feel seen, understood, and safe enough to explore what’s underneath the surface. She also integrates Brainspotting to help clients process and release what’s stored in the body, along with evidence-based approaches to support emotional regulation and self-compassion.

Together, she will work with you to create space for both your struggles and your strengths—because both deserve to be seen.

Therapy with her is collaborative, down-to-earth, and sprinkled with humor when it fits. Healing can be serious work, but it doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. Danielles goal is to help you reconnect with yourself, rediscover your resilience, and move toward the life and relationships that feel most true to you.

Feeling “meh” for weeks? You’re not just lazy, you’re probably depressed — and no, watching 6 hours of TikTok videos isn’t a long-term solution. (We’ve tried.)
Depression isn’t just feeling sad — it can sneak in as:

Constant exhaustion, even after a full night’s sleep
Losing interest in stuff you used to enjoy
That lovely combo of feeling everything and nothing at the same time
Isolation, irritability, brain fog, and the “crying-in-the-shower” playlist on repeat

✨Here’s the thing: You’re not broken. Your brain’s just throwing a bit of a tantrum. And there are ways to help it chill out.
Try these healthy coping strategies:
✅ Talk it out — with a friend, a therapist, a pet, or even your houseplant
✅ Get moving — even a 10-minute walk like you’re on a fake phone call can help
✅ Set tiny goals (like “put on pants” — we celebrate all wins here)
✅ Practice self-compassion: You’re not a robot. You’re allowed to rest.

At Restoring Connections Therapy we are here to help you understand what you’re going through and find a path forward — no judgment, no awkward silence (unless you need it 😉).

📚 Back to School = Back to Talking 🧠💬

As school starts back up, it’s not just a good time to buy new supplies — it’s the perfect time to check in with your teen’s mental health.

💭 Teens are navigating so much — academic pressure, friendships, identity, and self-worth. The best thing you can do? Talk. Ask. Listen.
✨ Talk about mental health like you talk about physical health.
✨Ask about their thoughts, ideas, worries, and what matters to them.
✨ Really listen — without judgment or quick fixes. Most of the time your quick fix isn’t want they need.

When teens feel heard, they feel valued.
When they feel understood, they grow more confident.
And when they feel emotionally safe at home, their self-esteem and resilience thrive.

📌 Try this:
Instead of asking, “How was school?” try:
🔹 “What was something that made you think today?”
🔹 “Was there anything that felt hard or surprising?”
🔹 “What’s something you’re proud of today?”

You can also use their “teenage” terms, to make them laugh, and show them you are listening.

These conversations build connection. And connection builds healthy minds. 💚
