Finally getting around to posting my pride photos from the last weekend in June. I was honored to be asked to lead the meditation at the rejuvenating, uplifting community pride event at D Windsong Retreat Space. I offered my moaning meditation which started us off with getting in our bodies and feeling our own vibrations with the sound and power of our voices. Your voice is meant to be heard and felt by you. I haven’t posted in a while because I’m in recovery from being everyone’s super-hero/savior, but my own. 🦸🏽

A beautiful person gifted this book to me, right when they saw that I needed it most. I can’t thank her enough. These are the pages I landed on today. 💙

Stop trying to “understand everything with only your mind. You don’t always have to “get it”. Getting it, is just a bonus. When you’re in relationship with other people, the goal is connection rather than distance, even when it’s hard (notice I said hard, not harmful). When you try to feel what the other is saying, you can transcend the discomfort, close the gap and lean into connection. It eventually gets easier to lean into not knowing everything. Moving past your own personal discomfort or outdated beliefs, reaching for the other from the heart and admitting your mistakes, strengthens relationships. You will also come to notice that you’ve restored your humanity and theirs.

In this photo is a picture of my mother and her students at a school known as Urhuhu Sasa Shule, a school in a Pan African community known as The East in Brooklyn NY. You can find out more about the East in the Indie film “The Sun Rises in the East”
My mother was also a Black Panther and owned a black bookstore in the East, that got raided often by the police.

My Great Grandfather was a Garveyite who owned his own business as a form of activism and resistance.

We all have stories that contribute to our black history. It’s not just about the famous folks. What is your black history?
