Dr. Fatu Forna Global Obstetrician & Gynecologist | Epidemiologist | Writer | Speaker

Sex, STDs, and contraception are challenging but necessary topics of discussion between parents and their daughters. This book is written by a gynecologist, and contains frank medical advice given in an easy to read, and unbiased way to encourage teenage girls and their parents to start, or continue discussions about their bodies, sex, STDs, and contraception. It is from your doctor to you, includes real life pictures, discusses what to expect during that first gynecology visit, and includes what every teenage girl should know as they grow into adulthood.

The day of birth can be a dangerous time for both women and babies.

🔹 Nearly half of stillbirths happen after labour has started
🔹 Most maternal and newborn deaths happen around the time of birth.

Ensuring quality care before, during and after childbirth is critical to protect their health.

👶🏻👶👶🏽 We have the first child death from measles in 10 years - the last one was in 2015!!!
🤰🤰🏻🤰🏽 Medicaid covers nearly HALF of all pregnant women in the U.S. Cutting Medicaid will cause a significant impact on the health of pregnant women in this country! All that work to keep pregnant women safe will go down the drain.

Yes, this is what DEI looks like!
Diversity. Excellence. Intelligence.
I am one of the Black Women that make up 2.8% of all physicians in the U.S. and I’m one of the best to ever do it.
Yes, I’m intelligent as hell! Skipped 2 grades in elementary school. Graduated high school at age 15. Re-enrolled as a new immigrant in 12th grade in the U.S. because my mom thought I was too young to go to college. Graduated HS again and entered college at age 16. Sold $1500 worth of Sierra Leonean 🇸🇱 crafts & clothes my mom sent me with to pay for the 1st year of college at FAMU 🐍. Excelled and got a scholarship helping minorities in STEM that allowed me to complete college along with cleaning the salad bar at Shoney’s. Graduated top Biology student in my class with great MCAT scores & was recruited to Duke Med because they made a commitment to matriculate the best & brightest Black students in the country in 1996. Excelled & graduated with an MD & MPH in 4 years at age 24. Became an OBGYN and an Epidemiologist & served my country & the world working for CDC & WHO. Appointed as Chair of the OB/GYN department at Kaiser Permanente in Georgia in my 30s. Did research & published multiple ground-breaking articles on Maternal & Reproductive Health and helped develop the model to reduce maternal mortality. Serve as an international expert advising organizations and countries on maternal & reproductive health. Care for pregnant women & deliver their babies. Founded and run the non-profit .
Yes, THIS IS THE EXCELLENCE THAT IS DEI! There are VERY few doctors as accomplished as me and many of my fellow Black Female Physicians. We earned our seat at the table because we are the best of the best. Now run tell THAT!
Today is National Black Women Physician’s Day and ! 🙌🏾💕
