This International Women’s Day, we're taking the time to remember the pioneering Professor Dorothy Hodgkin, whose research on unlocked treatments for people with and changed the landscape for women in science everywhere.

Dorothy remains the only British to have won a in science (which she won in 1964), and her discovery in 1969 about the inner secrets of insulin paved the way for the production of synthetic insulin, which millions of people with diabetes use today.

Dorothy also pushed boundaries for , including fighting the withdrawal of research funding from graduate women who decided to marry.

A true pioneer, Dorothy is someone we’re proud to remember this !

A message from  President & CEO:
Hi there,
I’m so excited to announce the launch of something new in screening for type 1 diabetes (T1D), something that will change lives: A new T1D risk screening test is now available to anyone and everyone! Now with one simple, at-home blood test, anyone can know if they are at risk for T1D before symptoms even occur.
It’s far too common a story — maybe you are familiar with it yourself. Weight loss, chronic thirst, exhaustion and other seemingly inexplicable symptoms appear leading up to that final scary doctor's appointment or worse: diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and even hospitalization. That terrifying turn of events is how far too many families learn of a T1D diagnosis. But with your help, this could be a thing of the past!
Where do you come in? Well, first I ask that if you don’t know your own T1D autoantibody status, get screened yourself.
If you have T1D like me and don’t need to be screened, join me in encouraging your family members to get screened. Blood relatives of those with T1D have a 15 times greater risk of developing it themselves. And because 85% of T1D diagnoses happen to people with no family connection to the disease, we need your help to spread the world that everyone should get screened.
Screening will help thousands of families, but it’s also another step toward a bigger goal: curing T1D by accelerating therapies that can halt its progression. And it’s all possible because of supporters like you.
Thank you,
Aaron J. Kowalski, Ph.D.
JDRF, President & Chief Executive Officer
