Dear all,
A couple of weeks ago, I posted that the Snowdrop Appeal Team had some exciting news which was to be announced soon, and this is now that moment.
Around three months ago, Jen and myself were contacted by Kirsty Willis, Bereavement Midwife, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, who asked if we would like to visit the “New Snowdrop Suite”.
It emerged that work had continued with the development of the new unit which so many of us dreamed of, and also have tirelessly been raising funds towards, in addition to many others who have also done so themselves.
This news and invite came as a very welcomed suprise to us at the time, and we are sure many of you will also be delighted to hear this fantastic news and see some sneaky pictures I managed to take on the day.
Both Jen and myself were overwhelmed by the amount of work and thought that has gone into developing the new unit, which has included all of the suggestions that have made over the last fourteen years via the Snowdrop Appeal, and in addition, those made by so many others involved in reaching this point.
There have been many other professions involved in the development plus a great deal of networking and research done by the hospital team to meticulously plan everything and bring it all together.
This specialist bereavement unit allows those who are experiencing the loss of a baby, to have labour care in an area separated from the main Labour Ward.
It has been designed as a protected space to allow privacy for parents and their families.
Thanks to incredibly generous donations over many years, we are now officially opening the unit which comprises a delivery room, a double en-suite bedroom, an area for baby, a kitchenette, and a private waiting area.
Please find some pictures I took on the day Jen and I visited. We hope these will give you some idea of the unit, the atmosphere and thought that has gone into developing it.
On the day I took these pictures, there were still some finalities being completed in the unit, including a garden area outside which will be to the left in the picture of the private entrance.
The unit will be opened by the Trusts esteemed guest, Donna Ockenden on the 17th October. We are sure that there will be some press releases on the day of shortly afterwards and hopefully some more final pictures of all the work completed.
With kind wishes,
Greg, Jen and the Snowdrop Team x”
